Mun’s Note: This is a guest post from Christian of JustAGuyThing.com. I first knew Christian by chance few months ago and found that what he wrote are pretty interesting. It is indeed my honor to have him as guest blogger. He provided the fantastic write-up and I worked on the pictures.

5 Inspirational Movies To Boost Your Motivation To Exercise
There comes a time when everybody becomes demotivated or uninspired with their workout. Rigorous training and a grueling diet can often lead to you questioning whether or not it’s worth it. So what do you do?

The obvious choice is to change your workout and focus on new exercises and routines to keep your muscles, and your mind, fresh. But what about your motivation? Sometimes you just can’t be bothered to get out of bed, let alone head off to the gym to complete an intense circuit training workout made for Spartan soldiers!

The solution, my fitness-minded allies, is motivational movies. I’ve selected the top 5 movies that have instantly transformed me from a meandering sloth into an inspired, motivated, gym-hungry animal ready to squat a house!

So without further ado, here is my list:

5. Kickboxer
Kickboxer was my favorite film as a teenager. It has everything needed to motivate you to achieve. It starts out with loss and anger when Kurt’s brother, Eric is paralyzed by a vicious Muay Thai fighter. And what did Kurt (played by Jean-Claude Van Damme) do? Well he went out and got himself trained up to be the baddest fighter in Thailand. This movie literally made me want to go out and kick down a palm tree with my bare shins!

Famous quote in Kickboxer: You must learn to be faster than any punch or kick, that way you won’t get hit.

4. Enter The Dragon
In my opinion this is the best martial arts movie ever made. The fight scenes are fantastic, Bruce Lee‘s physique itself is enough to make me stop slacking off and get myself down the gym and his spirituality and strength of mind are strong motivators for me to become a better man.

Famous quote mentioned by Lee in Enter The Dragon: Never take your eyes off your opponent… even when you bow.

3. Million Dollar Baby
A fantastic story about a female boxer (Hilary Swank) who, against all odds, wins her way to a title fight thanks to her trainer, Clint Eastwood. This movie is inspirational. It inspires me to improve myself through drive, loyalty, ambition, dedication, and hard work. Motivation in every sense of the word.

Famous quote in Million Dollar Baby: If there’s magic in boxing, it’s the magic of fighting battles beyond endurance, beyond cracked ribs, ruptured kidneys and detached retinas. It’s the magic of risking everything for a dream that nobody sees but you.

2. Rudy
Now I’ll be the first to admit I’m not a huge fan of American football, but this true story about an underdog looking to become a quarterback for Notre Dame is nothing short of spectacular. Rudy is a physically average man who, through sheer hard work and determination, realizes his dream! This movie makes me confident that I can overcome any odds and reach levels I never thought were possible before.

Famous quote in Rudy: Well, you know what my dad always said, Having dreams is what makes life tolerable.

1. Rocky IV
What can I say about this movie that hasn’t already been said? Former champ Rocky Balboa ( played by Sylvester Stallone) goes to Russia to fight a drugged up Soviet champion to avenge his friends death. Cue some amazing training montages which compare the low-budget methods of Rocky against the high-tech routine adopted by Ivan Drago. This movie just makes me want to work out. Hard. It also makes me want to square up with the gym meat head just to say “I will break you.” Fantastic.

Famous quote in Rocky IV: No, maybe I can’t win. Maybe the only thing I can do is just take everything he’s got. But to beat me, he’s going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he’s gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he’s got to be willing to die himself. I don’t know if he’s ready to do that. I don’t know.

So there you have my top 5 movies that inspire me to achieve greatness when I really lack the motivation to do anything but sleep. Give them a watch and let us know what they do for your motivation. If you think I’ve missed a fundamental component of your motivation movie arsenal, then please feel free to leave a comment and let us know what movies inspire you to workout like a lunatic!

Good post, a few of my favorite motivational dvds include i Robot, and Blade Trinity There is a great little bit on the extras documentary for Blade Trinity call ‘nightstalkers bootcamp’, or something like that, with goes into the training the cast did to get in shape fro the movie.

Wow!! Great list. Absolutely identical to the one I had in mind. Kickboxer’s and Rocky IV’s training montages are great. Rudy is also great. Who doesn’t appreciate a good underdog story.

Fuck yeah! Characters with an IQ less than half their shoe size are just totally inspirational. If I’ve got to fight some drug-crazed psycho as in Rocky IV, I’ll knife, shoot or run over the fucker with a truck. I’m not going to count on exercise to do it.
