Billionaire Family Wee Plans to Conquer Fitness Industry with True Fitness

August 25th, 2007 · 54 Comments ·

Latest update on 12 June 2017: True Fitness has closed down all its branches in Malaysia as well as Thailand. – and

True Fitness made its foot print in Malaysia in year 2005, slightly later than all the established fitness centers. However, it has since picked up the pace with the huge potential being the strongest among them. In this article, let’s look at True Fitness and its founder, Patrick Wee.

Patrick is the youngest in his family, graduated with a degree in law from the National University of Singapore. Rumor said that he is related to the billionaire UOB Wee family. He is the son of Singapore’s former chief justice Wee Chong Jin. Patrick became the Singapore partner in Ray Wilson California Fitness in 1997 and subsequently helped to set up its two Singapore branches in Orchard Road and Raffles city.

In 1999, he sold his shares in the Singapore-based company to a US capital venture fund. As part of the deal, he moved to Hong Kong to oversee California Fitness’ expansion beyond Hong Kong and Singapore into Taiwan, South Korea and Thailand.

In 2003, Wee successfully launched and managed those clubs. He joined his partner Eric Levine in acquiring the South Korean and Thai business units of California Fitness.

In the same year, he co-founded Planet Yoga with Master Kamal in Hong Kong and Hollywood Fitness in Taiwan. However, he sold Hollywood Fitness to California Fitness in year 2004.

Later, he decided to make something big on his own – True Yoga.

I believe that Patrick does not expect True Yoga would grow that fast. He started the first flagship studio of True Yoga at Pacific Plaza, Singapore in late 2004. But, the brand of True Yoga is overshadowed by True Fitness which was actually set up at the later time in Malaysia. Sri Hartamas True Fitness centre, which has the built area of 40,000 square, became the talk of the town when it first opened in May 2005. It is not the discotheque lookalike environment that set it apart from other gyms, it is the huge money investment that stunned the industry.

Patrick poured about RM10 million to get the center up and running within short period. The place has studios, shower rooms, lockers, steam rooms, retail store and nursery in addition to the standard state of the art equipments. That centre became the springboard for its regional success.

Later, he decided to have a holding company with the name of TRUE. TRUE will be the complete fitness lifestyle centre that offers yoga (True Yoga), fitness (True Fitness), spa (True Spa) and aesthetics treatments (True ‘Est) under one umbrella.

In one of the interviews, Patrick said “I do not view Fitness First or Celebrity Fitness as my competitors. It is the matter of offering consumers variety in their fitness lifestyle.” In a way, he is right. The pie is still big enough.

Here are the latest list of TRUE (as of August 2007):

1) Singapore
– 2 True Yoga outlets (Pacific Plaza and Ocean Towers)
– 1 True ‘Est (Ngee Ann City Tower)
– 1 TRUE (OUB Centre)

2) Taiwan
– 2 True Yoga outlets (Chung Hsiao Centre and Asia World Centre)

3) Malaysia
– 1 True Fitness outlet (Desa Sri Hartamas)
– 2 True Fitness + Yoga + Spa ( Taipan and Jaya 33)
– 1 True Fitness + Yoga (Pavillion)

4) Thailand
– 1 True Fitness + Yoga + Spa + ‘Est (Sukhumvit Road)

I believe that True Fitness success is partly due to its marketing strategy with strong financial support and also because of the correct timing. Yoga popularity swept this region since year 2002 and it became almost a must-know item lately, for the young and old generation. By combining Yoga and Fitness in one center, it differentiates itself from others.

By 2010, the group expects to run 20 clubs in 5 countries. In August 2007, 11 of 20 clubs have been set up. Another 2.5 years to go, will it really be able to set up another 9 more clubs? Let’s wait and see.

I have republished my review of True Fitness outlets at Sri Hartamas, Taipan and Jaya 33.  Check them out.

I was extremely DISAPPOINTED coz being cheated by the sales counsellor at Desa Sri Hartamas.
My advise to all of you – pls make sure when you sign on the contract, all the packages / period has been clearly written on it before you sign it. They can just ask you to sign on the blank contract and later on put up a different chop stated the T&C on it!!!

  • Cedric // Sep 27, 2007 at 8:56 PM

Please do becareful with sales person not just from true fitness but all clubs…in reality…sales person are trained to persuade ppl to join…we as members or non-members failed to see that and put too much trust on it..a contract is still a contract…noting beats words of trust till u read it urself….you should be glad true fitness has a diferent approach….protecting their target market from mass market interest…..

  • CEL // Oct 24, 2007 at 10:24 PM

i was very disappointed of the true spa in jaya 33, when the time i signed i was told this branch will grand opening latest by 15 of sept but until now still no response from them. At first they feedback that they are insufficient of staff to contact all the existing true fitness member and told me that on early month of Oct will start operate. I understand that the things no always go well n smooth but at least, PLEASE drop me a mail or give me a ring that wat going on… Please!!!!!

  • wn // Mar 27, 2008 at 12:52 PM

i hope dis comment wil reach Patrick Wee, he really gotto look into some of the jaya33’s sales counsellor stantard. they persuade ppl to join on the spot not giving u change to think twice.
after u sign up..thats it…..if u feel being cheated….that is ur prob…..they keep ur money and go on looking for another victim.
the upper level staff also worse, they jz want MONEY and for them u r just a dumbbell.

Not notify in written about the alternative use in other gym for those affected by them bringing down their OUB outlet with a gym. For past 3 months, wrote to them letters, calling them but did not reply at all.
No idea what to do as I am still committed to make payment to them via my credit cards and have 27 months to go!

  • Grace // Jul 16, 2008 at 11:19 AM

    Hi all,
When UOB gym centre is closed down, members are not informed formerly by True Yoga management. We do expect some formal notification mails or announcement from the management. As a professional organisation, they shall be responsible to inform their members accordingly and at least announce their planning to replace the closed centre, such as the targeted date to reopening, location..etc.

I believe most members are paid for three centres’membership fees, but now we are enjoying only two centres’ facility. Closing down of the UOB gym centre even impacts more on those people who do gym or sign up gym training packages. Situation has becoming worse nowadays as large crowd of members(guess are regular visitors from UOB centre) are flooding to the other two centres. We are fighting for classes and doing yoga nowadays is no more a relaxing activity for me. I lost flexibility to choose my favourite classes as most of the bookings of evening classes are full one /two days in advanced. Besides, the service level is dropping, as staffs are tight up with long queues of members in the waiting list everyday, esp for the evening sessions. From now and then, you can here complaints and frustration remark among the crowd.

For months i am waiting for a proper arrangement from True Yoga management. No single formal announcement is made for the future planning. I hope this little feedback shall get some attention from the higher management. My advise is, True Yoga indeed has a good foundation and potential to grow in this industry, but please be conssitent in the service level, professional and responsible to your clients to sustain the reputation built these years.

  • nls // Jul 19, 2008 at 2:19 AM

most of the true fitness staff are useless ppl so dun expect anything done from them…go to consumer tribunal ask for advice….my bro sued them misleading and won the case…..feel pity for its founder…..poor guy

  • Ken L // Aug 6, 2008 at 3:48 PM

    The whole TRUE Group is full of shit, and I can say that many times. I joined True Spa in 2007, this is the one located at Takashimaya, signed for a 12 session package and guess what, I only manage to use less than half. They cannot even get their operations right for a Spa. Examples;

    1. Noisy Environment – screaming kids and aunties and uncles talking loudly outside the waiting area. Guess what, you can hear them in the treatment room. Hardly any peace.

    2. Therapist – I am no stranger to using masseurs, and therapists are an integral part of the process. They change therapist without informing customers, whether they are on MC or off for the day.

    3. Reminder Service – The TRUE Group of companies is truly a sales centric environment. Of course every organization is set up to make money, the difference is how you make the money, and what is the after sales service. In this case, TRUE is not only lack in sales ethics, but also there is no such thing as service, which is an integral part of a Spa business.

So, the above 3 things is good enough for a subscriber not to renew, so its like a Hit-and-Run business.

  • Joyce // Aug 23, 2008 at 2:01 PM

I agree with one of the comment left by someone as mentioned the staffs in True Yoga is not up to the standard. As a staff before in the office of True Yoga, I thought being in an established company hold certain security and fairness in the way the upper management treat people. But to my surprise, after some months of staying with the company,I realised the upper authority is abusing their authority to those of lower position which is not right. Obviously, the management in the company needs to be revised eg employing the right people for the higher authority. Without the right people in the company, the directions for the company may be affected as well as they are the ones who tell volumes about the company as a whole.

  • gym rat // Aug 23, 2008 at 11:29 PM

yes, i totally agree with the not up to standard staffs from True… i am from planet fitness and true yoga took over the business a wk or so ago… the physiques of their personal trainers are not typical of trainers…flabby arms, bulging bellies!!! and they push for sales which i found it rude and aggressive. and worse still, i heard them cursing in a string of fluent hoarse hokkien vulgarities just outside the parkway parade branch…. i am just hoping they do not replace the current aerobics, yoga instructors, and not change the current booking for classes system and not impose penalty charges or payment for classes.

  • mauritz fensham // Sep 17, 2008 at 7:14 PM

    To whom it may concern:

I am very impress with the company profile and progression and would like to become part of your group. Can you please referme to the correct channel.

  • FJA // Oct 16, 2008 at 12:19 PM

If you are thinking of joining any fitness group run by True – DON’T !!!
The staff are lazy, unprofessional and totally lacking in honour. The gyms are health hazards and no one cares. Staff won’t return phone calls or reply to emails. I have complained to the Singapore government agencies about all the health hazards and they are currently investigating.

  • Anne // Oct 30, 2008 at 4:37 PM

It is true they not working at all times. I visited them on a public holiday and wanted to see their operations mgr. They claim that the person in charge is at COURT, in the end they wrote a letter for misleading me. They do not pick up calls and have no plans to serve us.

  • nls // Oct 30, 2008 at 6:36 PM

they gotto go to tribunal court coz many ppl suing em…..

  • truemember // Nov 14, 2008 at 2:53 PM

I have been a Planet Fitness member for some years.

I noticed on a number of occasions, one relatively new female membership consultant (with long blonde-colored hair) @ Suntec City outlet, using her sex appeal on males to sign up membership. Being a long-time member and familiar with a couple of their old staff, I was told that she has caused the breakup of one marriage and was even approached by the member concerned.

I trust a reputable businessman like Mr Patrick Wee and his management team will ensure that their company’s success is achieved with integrity, and ensure that they uphold their company’s image at all times. I am therefore confident that they will investigate and address our concerns.

Meanwhile, let us continue to enjoy our work-outs at True Fitness.

By the way, congratulations on your acquisition, Mr Wee!

  • Huda Dogan // Dec 19, 2008 at 1:15 AM

I visited your club at the Pavillion which has True Fitness + Yoga. I was very impressed with the location and cleanness of the Health Club and your Mind & Body. I heard True Fitness is coming to Dubai and I can’t wait for that. I have 12 years Exp. In the states and Dubai and would love to see True Fitness in the Middle East!!!!

  • Jamie // Jan 15, 2009 at 11:46 AM

I am surprised with the people they employed in True Yoga as mentioned from the above comments. It’s true in a way some employees are not doing their work in the company, esp those in the manager level. They left all the work to be done by the junior staffs. All I know is they allowed msn and internet for those in the higher authority, therefore maybe they are busy chatting with people, that’s why no time to do the serious stuffs at work….Haha. I advised those who wanted to sign up for the packages to consider seriously before taking up so as to avoid the delay in their refund system… by their Credit Control/Membership Manager. Sometimes I also wonder why they go to work everyday if they do not want to do anything in the office…Hehe.

  • Huda Dogan // Jan 15, 2009 at 12:38 PM

Gym is a place to workout not wondering what the staff is doing. Why is everyone watching the management and others? Just because they are online does not mean they don’t do the job. Why don’t you try to talk to the manager and tell them how you feel and I’m sure they will do the best they can. True Fitness is one of the best Gyms I have been in and I worked in the USA and Dubai. Please meet the manager in person and if they are busy try again next time. Don’t take your anger on the website. When I visited True Fitness I talked to members and they are all so happy.

My advice is to try to find the manager and talk to them and explain the problem. Explain don’t argue

    Good luck

  • Jamie // Jan 16, 2009 at 11:53 PM

Yes I truly agree that the fitness centre is good for the members who used it. The reason why I think things are left undone by the managers in the company is because of the case as what you can see in the news not long ago regarding the refund issue. Yes, I know exactly what’s going on in the company as I heard from a staff who used to work there before that those who are in charge are not at all listening to what was being complained and said. Cases were being left unsolved one after another and they just can go to office as seem nothing is happening…even when the court letters were being issued to the respective person in sad it is for the Boss who employed such people in the company. Just my opinion about the matter, not arguing at any point, frankly speaking from my heart.

  • akashi // Feb 5, 2009 at 11:15 AM

the news that you read in the papers are all the problems from PLANET FITNESS. true fitness only bought over planet fitness in aug i think. so these management of true fitness re being nice to settle things for the previous planet fitness. well people, BEFORE YOU SIGN UP PLEASE GET YOUR INFO CLEAR. i find true fitness is a good gym. the classes are all fantastic!

  • Mingming // Mar 30, 2009 at 11:31 AM

I went to True Spa at Takashimaya for the free trial last week. They let me wait for 20 minutes without a valid reason. The attitute of the counter staff is not friendly. In the end, I did not sign any package.

  • wei ling // Apr 17, 2009 at 3:09 AM

in reference to one of the comments made, I SO AGREE THAT THE STAFF AT TRUE YOGA DO NOT REPLY TO EMAILS OR PHONECALLS. One even chickened out and sent out a new guy to talk to me, after making me wait for almost an hour. PATHETIC.
The management is terrible. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR ANY OF THESE TRUE CONTRACTS. Because the staff just doesn’t care. All they want is money. They don’t give a damn about your health.

  • ling // May 11, 2009 at 10:57 AM

True Fitness outlets only look good on the outside but the staff are mostly
“couldnt care less” attitude. Plus they don’t really look into maintaining their equipments. Sometimes, I see the same machine “not working”for weeks! I have even heard customers complaining the same to the staff at their counters week after week.
Shower rooms are badly lighted up (especially the one in Subang Taipan), pipes leaking, soap dispenser broken neither are they properly labelled.

It is really sad that Patrick Wee pumps in money to start up a centre without passion of committing to its customers in terms of its services.

  • nls // May 11, 2009 at 5:34 PM

Patrick Wee wont care la…jz tell every one u know not to join this lousy fitness center!

  • Leong // Oct 15, 2009 at 5:04 PM

i wish i rhave ead about this website 2.5mths earlier so that I wouldn’t hv make a regretful decision to sign up with True Fitness. It’s one of the worst experience I ever had, nightmare! I join TF two and half months ago and I have not been given a proper membership card. I am using that stupid paper to access the club everytime I need to go to the gym. Call up Joe, the sales personnel from Suntec City and he simply give me empty promises. He promise that I will get my card by this week and when i check with him about the status of the card, he told me it’s still in process and that he has tried his best. As if i’m the one who is at fault and begging him for the card. Plus I was given unfrenly attitude whenever I visited the gym, as if I own them $$. It was really terrible. Instead of unwinding myself after a hard day at work by working out at a gym, I felt distress and making me go through all these unpleasant time in the gym. The facitilies at Vivo was horrible and sucks. The bathroom was always wet and dirty, I don’t even dare to bath there after one time. The lockroom was so smelly at one time that I have to hold on to my breadth, The lock room was so tiny that i get bump into whenever i move slightly. The most insulting thing was I was asked to produce my IC for verification when i use that piece of pathetic paper to access the gym. In the first place, if my card was processing and given to me promptly, would I be using that stupid paper for entrance? make me look like as if i’m trying to cheat for entry into the gym. I have demanded to cancel the membership and they refused. Can anyone help me on that? Should I report to the media or even CASE?

  • nls // Nov 27, 2009 at 9:46 PM

to leong…have u got ur mbshipcard? u can ask help from tribunal court…

  • Evelyn // Jan 3, 2011 at 11:23 PM

My daughter was hard sold into a 3 year package thinking she cld terminate anytime. She was under 18 n had her 21 year old brother to contract for her. She had a chronic occult lumbar ie. Tailbone defect which triggered back pain when stretching during yoga. Her request for termination was ignored. She stopped going to True Yoga for a year. I learnt of it, provided medical report, n got no empathy. No efforts to restructure the program. Just a flat regret email from their operations mgr. People out there! Be careful with what u are committing when signing contracts with True Yoga. Ethics and social responsibility are their lip service only. High staff turnover is a reflection of the organisation’s leadership n core values. Business sucess by exploiting ignorance of the young is despicable. I am going tribunal court…..

  • nls // Feb 23, 2011 at 12:50 PM

dear Evelyn, So sorry to hear that, yes u should go to tribunal court, my bro sued them misleading and won the case, i wish u all the best, hope to get good news from u!!

  • Mr YKC // Sep 3, 2011 at 1:12 AM

A group of customers of True Spa Pte Ltd had taken legal actions against the company. Group had applied a winding up proceed against the company for failure to render service. It’s found in ACRA records that all True Groups assets in Singapore are operating in the RED and even it’s Singapore Holding Company’s account are in question!

All customers of True Spa, True Fitness and True Yoga should take legal action together against the owner of True Group. How can a trained lawyer whose father used to be one of the longer serving Chief Justice of Singapore run business in such an unethical manner. Shame on him and a pity to this family name.

Someone should get the authority in MTI and MOF stepped in to investigate the accounts of all these assets and the personal accounts of Mr Patrick John Wee Ewe Seng.

He is the same owner of an overseas registered ultimate holding company and from records huge amount of funds or monies had been made to this or other related companies under the impression of “professional services” rendered or such but yet the actual services to the individual customers are not being fulfill. Isn’t this amounting to cheating or equivalent?

  • Evelyn Goh // Sep 3, 2011 at 10:08 AM

Every mention of this company leaves a terrible taste. Their mercenary business model at the expense of trusting public is indeed a shame to the family name. As a Singaporean, I am embarrassed. To all out there – this has been a very expensive lesson for me and my young daughter. She has learnt how unfair and ugly business owners can be.

  • promila ansari // Oct 1, 2011 at 6:36 AM

fitness is a total crap, no towels most of the times, no schedule updates. if you ask the staff they simply say in their THAI language WE DONT KNOW SIR! i am not paying fortune to listen shit. machines dont work either so whats the point of being a BILLIONAIRE? owner knows best how to fraud and earn money WELL KARMA IS A BITCH KEEP IN MIND. you are late one day paying money and you are forbidden to enter fitness well thats really nice. california was much better.

  • gurimik // Oct 18, 2011 at 10:42 AM

True Fitness truly is a cheat, after 5 years of terminating their service, I received a phone call from their “legal department” claiming I owe them close to RM11k, because 1) they failed to contact me for early warning (I’m still puzzled how this “legal department” can contact me instead. 2) The membership is auto-renewal every 2 years and 3) I did not terminate the membership properly. So the compensation payment I made about 5 years ago for terminating the contract was not to terminate my membership? I feel so cheated! and btw, when I called back the number from their “legal dept”, it was actually a collection agency who wanted to make me panic and rush to the bank to make the payment!

  • Michelle // Mar 23, 2012 at 2:15 PM

I was bought to the free trial by my friend & I signed with True Yoga for 1yr contract. The sale girl was quite friendly quite friendly in the first place but she did not tell me that I can’t terminate the service after signning up. I admit that I did not read carefully on the term & condition as I trust her and she was rushing at that time.I regretted it so much!!!!!!! When I went home to read the letter, I was shocked to know that it can’t be terminate in this period of time. So, I try to call up to terminate the contract as it was within 1week & I didn’t not use their service at all. I had prepaid for 1mth of SGD123 & I don’t want to pay for the service I’m not going to use. When I called them up, the was like pushing the responsibility around. I told them I can pay for the early termination as it was only within the 1week but the sale girl don’t seem to bother about it & firmly said that I can’t cancel the contract before the expire date so she said I have to pay till the expire date no matter whether I’m going to use the facilities or not. I felt being cheated! They had send demand letter for payment by a legal firm. what should I do????

  • members of true fitness mumbai // May 7, 2012 at 2:03 AM

Dear Mr.Patrick John Ewe Seng Wee,
We members at True Fitness Mumbai are facing so many issues since the builder has filed a case on True fitness and sealed off Bikram yoga since 03-03-2012. And the condition is getting deplorable day by day. It is really heart breaking & TOTALLY UNETHICAL to just want to wash your hands off TRUE FITNESS GYM at Mumbai, not caring about the staff who have so sincerely held on to their faith in you and the company since so long. Nor answer to The Members about their membership & some of us have paid 5 yrs advance.
Very conveniently you and Nicholas Kraal have taken off the country, leaving the True Fitness Mumbai orphaned, without any head or authority. NO ONE (none of the staff) has any answers to any of our questions nor refund our money.

What about the reputation of TRUE FITNESS Internationally? And the +9000 members? What happens to them while you are trying to wash your hands off your liabilities with the builder of Rs.30 Crores(300million rupees)?

And what is evident is that TRUE FITNESS MUMBAI has no money(petty cash) to service the air conditioners? The water supply is cut off, sometimes the lift etc, depriving the basic amenities to the members. It is a shame.

  • Robin. // Nov 15, 2012 at 4:39 PM

I get upset when the class instructors turn their loudspeakers on full volume. So the rest of us who also use the gym cannot even hear the music. Instead, we have to put up with the instructors’ fake accent. The manager seems afraid of the instructors. Why do members have to keep reminding the class instructors to be considerate?

The operations manager assured me that the sound system is set in such a way the volume cannot exceed a certain level. That’s total nonsense.

  • jbanya // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:33 PM

anyone have the direct contact email with Patrick Wee?
Years back a consultant promoted to me 2+1 package (buy 2 yrs get 1 yr free) at Hartamas True Fitness, but due to my schedule not flexible, so I only join as member who renew monthly. He seems like a new staff and the outlet manager sit next to him, let me sign an agreement. On the agreement mentioned is 2 yrs membership, first I have doubt and asked why there is “24 months” contract? and the outlet manager told me that they are still new (mid 2007), and this is the only “standard contract” that they have, and the outlet manager said I can cancel the membership anytime.

I then paid 1 month deposit and 1 month as membership fee.

After a month I NEVER have time to go gym and not even first trial, so I call back to the consultant and told him that I am not continue my membership. Well, he told me that he resigned, and said just have to call to the bank and cancel the transaction will do.

5 year later, means today, I apply for housing loan to buy a property, but rejected by OCBC, the reason is True Fitness reported I’m in CTOS!!!!!!! Imagine I dont have car loan, and not even have credit card for the past two years, full of confident that I can get the loan approval but now because of True Fitness, their unprofessional way to mislead the consumer and given empty promises, so I am in CTOS now.

  • Shaun Chin // Jun 17, 2013 at 12:46 AM

Dear True Fitness members of Jaya 33 branch, I really need your help!!!

I’d like to voice out a terrible incident for your further attention and future safety. FYI, I went to gym alone by Wednesday (12.6.13) around 8.25pm after work. The 1st thing I did was to keep my stuff in locker no. 270, including: my black sling beg with latest Asus S700 laptop (RM2,499) and external hard disc with 6 years of very important working data (invaluable due to the projects up to million) in it; my silver Esprit watch (RM700) and brown Ferragamo wallet (RM1,000) with approximately <RM200 cash and all the documents such as IC, driving licence, Touch & Go, True Fitness Platinum Card, Merchant Loyalty Cards, Maybank/Ambank credit cards (3 in total), and 2 ATM cards in it; and a green water-resistant gym beg with my clothes in it. I locked up with a proper padlock while reconfirming it was properly locked before I went to work out.

However, when I was done and going to take my bath around 9.45pm… I noticed my padlock was gone missing and everything in locker no. 270 was empty (stolen but locker in good condition). I was shocked and requested the Operation Team to investigate on this particular issue (best within 24-hour because it may be taken by the internal staff/cleaners and left without noticing). However, the Operation Supervisor — Sham, kept on ignoring me and refused to give me the manager's contact and insisted that it is not their practice to give away their superior's information! And, I've been told to look for their Operation Executive — Izhar, by the next morning and I was asked to leave the compound because they'll be doing clearance at 12am — ONLY staff are allowed to stay back. I was not allowed to view the CCTV until Thursday morning as told.

Fortunately, I still have my car key with me or else I'd need to walk back from Jaya 33 to SS2! Then, I've no choice but to go to SS2 police station to make a report. Surprisingly, the policewoman told me that there were so many similar cases happened at True Fitness of Jaya 33!!! She asked me to insist on the overall compensations and to file a legal case towards True Fitness. I was told that they always suspect it could be done by the insiders because: (1) too many similar cases (locker was not broken but padlock and things gone missing); (2) no CCTV at the right spot to capture suspicious person; (3) always can't spot anything from their CCTV (partly also due to the bad resolution); and (4) no improved or extra security measurements after so many cases happened. Questions here… If so many cases happened before, why didn't True Fitness taking any drastic actions or improved/extra security measurements to make sure the members' safety? What are we paying for if the management is not putting serious attention on on-going criminal issues at their gym centre? Wouldn't this add on to the chances and possibilities for the internal staff/cleaners to involve in stealing without being spotted or noticed?

On Thursday itself, no one contacted me and I have to visit True Fitness at Jaya 33 to look for the Operation Executive. Guess what? The Operation Executive and Operation Supervisor were having lunch opposite around 2.30pm-3pm. I waited for their return at the Reception Counter and only we have a chance to view the CCTV together with my Police Report. It is very obvious that Sham didn't pass my Incidental Report to Izhar for verification and they did not study the CCTV contents until I visited. Is that the right way to treat cases like mine? I insisted to speak to any higher authority where they only allowed me to speak to the Country Operations Manager — Nick, on 14.6.13 (Friday) morning.

On Friday morning, I met up with Nick. I asked about what True Fitness management is going to do with my case and what is the solution? Nick answered me that he will arrange to interview his cleaners (shouldn't this be done on the incident day?) and he won't compensate me on anything. They won't responsible for my case and he will never tolerate me like how his staff did. I insisted to speak to the Regional Head or Group CEO — Mr. Wee, but he said only losses more than RM100,000 can go straight up to the Regional Office. Guys, please judge yourself by using common sense, was I dreaming or it was from the Country Operations Manager of True Fitness? Nick urged me to wait for his update and look for him again before 6pm. I revisited True Fitness at Jaya 33 around 5.45pm and almost falling asleep at the office couch because they put me on hold for an hour. What's next? Nick said he will have a spot check at night because he strongly believed that my stuff were still in one of the lockers and he will contact me on the progress/updates by 11.45pm. I went back and waited until 15.6.13 (Saturday) without any reply.

Guess what? Both the Country Operations Manager and Operation Executive were not working on Saturday with no updates on my case. I asked the Reception Counter and they said Nick will give me a call until now… I have no choice but to bring this up to the media and wrote in to Mr. Wee (not sure if he has received my e-mail on the overall incident).

For those who went to gym on the same day and around that time frame, please P.M. me if u saw any suspicious person stealing or accidentally taken my stuff at locker no. 270. What I am asking now is my laptop and external hard disc because all my working data in 7 years are all in it. Last but not least, I need those victims who suffered like me or get "conned" or mistreated by True Fitness previously to text me at as I am planning to gather your power to take legal action against True Fitness. Please do this for your love ones and other people before they become the next victim. God bless.

yes..I agree all of u.years back a sales consultant promoted to me package for 2yrs at Hartamas True Fitness, but due to my schedule not flexible, so I only join as member who renew monthly. On the agreement mentioned is 2 yrs membership, first I have asked why there is “24 months” contract? and the sales consultant I can cancel the membership anytime if write in a letter.

I then paid 1 month deposit and 1 month as membership fee.

After a month 3I had to moved to JB to work, so I call back to the consultant and told him that I am not continue my membership. Well, he told me that write in a letter will do.

9 years later, means today, I apply loan to buy a car, but rejected by CIMB, the reason is True Fitness reported I’m in CTOS!!!!!!! So the compensation payment I need to made about 9 years ago for terminating the contract was not to terminate my membership? I feel so cheated! and btw, when I called up to find out, they said i didn’t cancel the membership and the consultant resigned already.
Imagine I dont have car loan, and not even have credit card for the past two years, full of confident that I can get the loan approval but now because of True Fitness, their unprofessional way to mislead the consumer and given empty promises,

I signed up to True Yoga when it first opened in Pacific Plaza. That was before their acquisition of Planet Fitness (which was later renamed True Fitness). When that happened (I think in 2008?) I was informed that my True Yoga card allows me to go to the gym as well. I’ve been going to the gym since then, I can’t remember when was the last time I went to True Yoga at PP. I could always get into the gym with no problem. I used to go to GWC outlet most of the time and now that there’s a branch in AMK, I usually go there cos it’s nearer and more convenient for me.

The thing is that now when they scan my card, sometimes I get told that my card doesn’t allow me to use the gym. Sometimes, it’s not a problem and they let me in. Sometimes, they question me. I tell them over and over that I have been using the gym for years and it shouldn’t be an issue that pops up every other day and they are still not convinced. A few weeks ago, one of the ladies who works at the front desk at AMK branch took my card to check and she wrote on a sticker on my card TF + Y all. She wasn’t there when I collected my card, so I couldn’t ask her any questions. I assumed it meant that my card allowed me to all true fitness + yoga classes. I thought the issue was settled until it happened again this week. Two days in a row, I got stopped and questioned (they still let me go in for my class while they “check”). When I told them about the other lady, I was told that she already quit. In my head I’m like why wasn’t there was passdown about my case and why didn’t she update the system so that this situation doesn’t have to happen over and over? I am very frustrated by now, so much so that I have no mood to go to the gym to see those faces at the front desk.

I am hoping to find other people in similar situation or someone who remembers anything about the true yoga card allowing access to true fitness as well.

I am one of the free lance yogi teaching in True Fitness Malaysia for the past 1 year.

Recently, all of our (free lance yogi and personal trainer) salary has been delayed since April 2015 and this time June & July salary even yet to release up until today. Reason given was due to cash flow tight because there’s renovation going on in the CLUB (but didn’t see any renovation at all).

There’s no answer given when called up to their HR and the HR Manager Ms. Sally (Jaya 33, PJ) was unfriendly talked or no pick up the call at all. As informed by the full time contract yogis, all of them received their payment with no delayed.

We are not satisfied with this unfair treated that only our free lance instructor’s payment being hold to help their cash flow problem (if this is the real reason) while others received their payment.

With no choice and no reply from the management, I would like to bring out this matter and hope this can reach Peter Wee’s attention to come out with a good solution before we proceed to the Labour Office on legal action / Media action.

I hot BIKRAM , and bought the True Yoga VIP membership . However, their BIKRAM studios smells like stinking feet. The experience was terrible and sucks. Please send carpet cleaners to clean your BIKRAM True Yoga studios, or change it. It smells like stinking feet, UNBEARABLE. Who wish to join them. Think twice!

ANNOUNCEMENT—-True Fitness closes all Thailand Centers

    9 June 2017

    Dear Members,

It is with deep regret that we announce the closure of our operations in Thailand. All True Fitness, True Spa and True ‘Est centres in Thailand have ceased operations on 9 June 2017.

In Thailand, the past years have proved challenging, and unfortunately the businesses are no longer financially viable due to evolving market conditions. Despite our best efforts, we were unable to sustain operations in Thailand due to the challenging market conditions.

We had several suitors to take over our businesses in Thailand but our landlords did not agree to have other operators take over the businesses and in some instances insisted on substantially higher rents. We had tried several attempts to rejuvenate the businesses but have not been able to get sufficient flexibility from our landlords and creditors to enable us to restructure the businesses in time and the decision by our creditors to shut us down left us with no option but to close down our operations till we find suitable operators to take over the businesses.

Despite the above, we are still open to looking for a suitable fitness and wellness operator who is willing to take over the business and we hope that this will happen soon.

We thank you for your support during this time.

True Fitness closed its business in Malaysia 01 June without notice and left all members stranded. It is an unethical move by True, there are thousands of members who still have contract still in service and many have paid for life time members.

True Fitness gave an offer for monthly passes to Chi Fitness until the expiry. Many members are taking legal action but I chose to believe that True Fitness will honour its offer.

Six months down the road, redeeming no problem but in the past two months, I have been facing issue redeeming. Official reason from True Fitness – technical problem.

PATRICK and your True team, you have cheated and continued cheating people who chose not to go down the legal route.
Tell you what, I’m going to the legal route and be prepared.
