Work Out a Plan
Depending on your goals or end destination, the type of equipment you’ll need can vary greatly. The first step toward setting up your own personal fitness area at home is to work out what you want to achieve. There are usually three types of setups you may want to consider. They are weights or resistance training, cardiovascular fitness, and lastly, you may want to use a combination of the two and create a one-stop-shop at home.

Resistance Equipment
Setting up a personal fitness area at home that centres around resistance training isn’t as hard as it sounds. One of the easiest ways to start resistance training is by purchasing dumbbells. Dumbbells are a versatile piece of equipment that can be stored easily in the home and help you add hundreds of exercises to your routine at home. Another great addition to the home personal fitness setup is a bench, which may sound simple, but again makes it possible to add many exercises to your routine. These two pieces of equipment are a great starting point, but if you’re ready to step things up, you may consider getting a squat rack or multi-purpose weight station. This multi-purpose equipment will help add foundational exercises into your routine like squats, deadlifts, chin-ups and more.

If you do not have a lot of space or budget, the third option may not be on the table for you, but it’s certainly the most well-rounded setup for any fitness enthusiast. Once you’ve established which approach you want to take, you can plan out the type of home gym equipment you’ll need and start the search and purchase process.

When it comes to getting fit, stronger or wanting to achieve a personal goal, many people think you need to join a gym or hire a trainer. What many do not understand is you can start and maintain your fitness journey from the comfort of your own home. Even if you do not have a lot of space or budget, even the smallest home gyms with a few items of equipment will go a long way. To learn how you can build your own personal fitness setup at home, follow this simple guide to home gym equipment.

A key consideration here is space, so make sure whatever resistance equipment you opt for, you have space for its storage.

Cardiovascular Equipment
Cardiovascular fitness is very important for all-round health and fitness. Cardio is one of the best ways to feel better about your health and also see incremental growth in your ability. Cardio equipment that can be added to the home setup varies depending again on your space and budget. Treadmills and bikes are very popular options for the home gym setup, but they can be expensive and take up a lot of space. A great option if you do want a large equipment option is a rowing machine, which also happens to be a fantastic workout.

Alternatives to these larger items are smaller options like skipping ropes, boxing pads or even a boxing bag. Boxing bags are a great way to keep fit, burn a lot of fat and can be hung from almost any supporting structure around the home. Boxing bags also have the added benefit of being quite simple to move, pull-down and put back up, meaning you can pick and choose when to have it up. Depending on your space available and the budget, any of these additions will help create a great personal fitness setup at home.
