- If you still find it hard to go to gym, explore some other alternatives such as non-profit community sporting clubs, women-only clubs or 1-to-1 personal training studios. Worse, join other sports activities which you are more comfortable and slowly build up your confidence.

No worry, many options are available out there. You should not give up exercising just because you are shy. I have been there, done there and I hope you will be able to do the same.

Great post. But for me, I didnt feel shy when I was in gym the first time. Maybe because I was focused on exercising and I didnt care about others.

Tho befriending everyone at the gym will take up too much of your workout time so my advice would be to start with the gym instructors and personal trainers. Though you should be nice to the receptionists and towel people too. Theyll be of great help when youre in need.
Im nice to everybody so i get loads of help with or without me asking for it ;p
Or perhaps its just easier for girls lol I dunno

Good Post. Ive heard too many people telling me that theyre scared to hit the gym bc theyre afraid of people staring.
For one thing, the guys all STARE at themselves.. and the girls like me, just LOOK blankly as Im there to work out myself.
That point of going at off peak hours is a good point as day time post morning rush and pre after work rush is best. Even the locker rooms/steamrooms/saunas are peaceful and not chock a block with people to avoid.

This is a valuable post. I remember some 15 years ago I felt a little bit nervous to go to the gym for the first time. A friend of mine was going there already so I asked him if I could go with him.
Currently I train at home, but the point you made about choosing less busy hours is very important. Its os much better when you can train in acalm and relaxed half empty gym.
