When my friend showed me this patent from the Net, I find it hard to believe. Someone has actually filed for a patent for a so called “anti-eating face mask” back in year 1982. This mask is designed to prevent the wearer from eating any food.
Here is the diagram of the invention.
You will see a pad lock at the side of the mask. So, this device is detachable. I wonder, if the person wears it too tight, will it leave grill marks on his face?
Obesity is not a new problem happening only in year 2007. It was already a problem 25 years ago. What made the inventor to come out with such a solution was that he believed that it is hard to control the urge to eat without any external forces. May be he was right. Temptation can be great that compulsive eating is common, especially for people with weak strength of will. Therefore, the main objective of this anti-eating face mask is to prevent the consumption of food. Not only that, it can prevent the wearer from smoking too, I suppose.
As much as I am impressed with the creativity, I was most amused by the ideas. I could not stop by keep thinking of chastity belt. Different things but similar objectives.
I will be sad if the day comes when we actually need this face mask to control ourselves from overeating. Will power is still a better option to control the urge to eat non-stop. If a person is so determined to eat, no matter what we put on his face, he will still get a way to get it down and start eating. Even with the lock on the mask, locksmith is just a call away.
I don’t think that this face mask has actually gone into mass production. It remains as a patent and let’s hope that it will always be a patent.

Oh, that’s a pain in the ass to put that on. One would definitely go frantic with the mask, trying to break free. Strong determination and encouragement can also aid, but most of all, a long whining lecture can usually stop a person from eating. After all, everyone’s afraid of that right?

OH! This is plain cruelty. How can ppl actually invent sth like that. To be able to eat is a bliss! Haha..oh man..I can’t take it. Gotta grab some cheezy wedges after this..need to do some justice to my tummy after having read this post! :p

I just have to shake my head. The really weird part is that you’de have to entrust somebody else with the key. Sounds more like some really strange submissive/domination kink to me.
