Review of True Fitness at Desa Sri Hartamas (2)

After seeing the photos taken in Review of True Fitness at Desa Sri Hartamas (1), let’s look at the membership fee. Also, I will also share with you what I like and things to watch out before you sign up.

Similar with California Fitness, the standard processing fee is RM99. Initially, I did not understand why they need so much money to process and wonder how tough the process is. Later, I realized that it is just one of the sales gimmicks.

When it first opened, True Fitness has less membership packages as compared to more than 20 packages nowadays. The fee has also been adjusted upward.

  • For example, in year 2005, if you pay monthly for a 3-year contract, the fee was RM100.
  • Later in year 2006, for the same period of contract, the fee was adjusted to RM120.
  • In year 2007, the fee has been increased to close to RM140.

I went for the 5-year Platinum membership. It was RM5,187 with average of RM86 per month. This passport membership includes fitness and yoga package.

What I Like About True Fitness at Desa Sri Hartamas:

  • It has many resistance machines.
  • It provides complimentary towel services, coffee and tea.
  • It offers many types of Yoga classes. At least 8 classes a day.
  • If you like working out with DJ spinning hip hop track, yes, you have got the club.

Things To Watch Out:

  • Getting car park at Hartamas at peak hour (5 PM to 7 PM) may not be easy
  • Because the gym is located on shop lots, the layout is bit odd. You will see big pillars in the studio, blocking views for members who are standing behind.

Ahhhh… Contemplated TF but it was too inconvenient for me to get to their gyms. :-(

Anyway, thanks for the review. Am sure that a lot of people will benefit reading from your gym reviews. ;-)

hie, thanks for the information ^_^. By the way, last year im joined True Fitness and signed 2 years contract with them.

After that, it so inconvenient to get there after changed my job but they said cannot cancel the two year contract unless you transfer membership to other ppl.

Then, Im very angry and never paid up the outstanding amount till now. Any consequences will happen? or any action they will take? summon me?

Amazing reviews, not just on True Fitness, but on the other fitness centres that you wrote on. The photos really helped as well. Since you have a passport membership for True Fitness, would you contemplate writing a review for the Jaya 33 branch and/or the new Pavillion branch?

Hi, yes True Fitness is a very nice gym center. But what i want to comment about is the services in True Fitness(Desa Sri Hartamas). Their services are not professional. I feel disappointed and they are not trusted. They like to ask people to wait when u call up or even walk in to the front desk. Some more the way they talk to me very rude.

Firstly, they make a big mistake for my membership due date and sent letter and sms to me to pay the outstanding balance. I feel so ignoring, so i called few time and ask them to check, even in their computer system also shown the wrong due date.

I’m very angry so i stop to go gym and called to discontinue my membership once my membership due date over.

But later on, they sent me a legal letter to pay for outstanding amount. I only sign for one year contract with them why should i pay for the extra months?

What’s wrong with the services in True Fitness(Desa Sri Hartamas), by the time i sign in as a member why they didn’t explain everythings clearly, before and after join as their member why the services is so must different? Even the gifts that i can redeem from True Fitness i asked them, the staffs say don’t know coz the person incharge leaved already and never give me any reply after that. And yet, they still telling me their are professional in service? What do you guys think?

Actually i like this fitness center, but is just the services they gave are so disappointed me to continue as their member.

Hi, I am looking to join a gym for most obvious reasons….Anyway just called True Fitness in Hartamas and they could not give me a straight answer when asked how much do I have to pay to join the gym and also to use the facilities… Thought that was a simple enough question. Finally after some pussy footing was told that since i dont want to pay by credit card my monthly payment will be around RM200 and there are a lot other charges…

Doesnt that scare you??? So no thanks True Fitness even though you are walking distance from where I live!!!

I joined this year with Black Card. Partly due to the fact I am usually in Thailand for 2 months or so. VIP Black Card entitles the member to use it in any branch, any country.

There are two branch in Bangkok, both close to the elevated train BTS. 9.5 out of 10 for total convenience. The staff are tremendously helpful, Thai-style. They are well known for being hospitable.

Sadly, when back in Malaysia, I go to the Pavilion branch. Alas, again - the service is just like what was written about the other branches in Selangor. Unmotivated. Eyeing your Personal Training. Keep bugging you. Does not help. Giving you the eye “oh you’re in terrible shape.. haha” kind of attitude. I totally hate those trainers who are “lepaking” then trying to talk which they can’t with their poor command of English, trying to get you to sign up for Personal Training. When I saw those people in PT, the trainer was never focusing. Always looking away. Not professional at all.

In Thailand, all staff are professionally trained and selected. Most are sports graduates. All are trained to make your day happy. A sincere smile.

In summary, alas this seems destined in Malaysia. It’s not just politics, but in school, in your office, taking taxis, govt departments, even fitness centres! The mingling psychological problem in our society never gets fixed. There is simply no aspiration to improve (not just yourself but your friends, fellow citizen).

My primary concerns and questions are these:-

i.) Does the Founder membership vary in a way that some Founder members can have WORLDWIDE access, i.e. future true fitness outlets other than Singapore and Thailand which may be built in the future (I’m asking this cos my membership will be essentially a lifetime membership). As it stands, if True Fitness opens an outlet in another country other than Singapore and Thailand in future, I’m not allowed access to that outlet, so my Founder membership not exactly a WORLDWIDE membership, if you follow what I’m saying.

ii.) Any idea what’s the cheapest deal a person can get for this Founder membership (mine came up to about RM8,000 plus which; this includes the amount that I had already paid for my 3 years membership the last time, i.e. RM4060.) I did my best to bargain the price down, but the manager said (even after almost 2 hours of bargaining) that he could not reduce the price as it was standardised. Just want to know whether I’ve been swindled/cheated for a bad deal and advise my other friends who are interested.

With your wide network of friends who are gym members, maybe you can help and check on the above for me?

Sorry for the long questions. And as always, thanks for your time and your posts which (by the way) are a constant source of motivation for people like me who strive to lose weight and regain my fitness.

    Hi Alan:

    1) Yes, I have the same concern as you. I took up my Black card VIP about 1.5 years ago back in Feb 07. Bikram Yoga was not offered then.

After it is available, I am denied for the access to Bikram Yoga.

So, you have the right concern. True Fitness just opened a new outlet in India. Please make sure that the so called “international” package includes all the outlets.

Let me know once you find out more. Many readers are keen to know too.

    2) Go and talk to another sales person in another True Fitness. You do not have to upgrade your membership from the outlet you have signed from.

You may be surprised that different numbers are given.

However, based on what I know, the latest Black Card VIP offering is about RM7,300+

In your case, since you have paid about RM4000+, just top up another RM3100+ should do.

Let me know how it goes.

    Hi guys,

    i) from my understanding, the Founder VIP’s Worldwide will NOT allow us to use India’s facility (not too sure why, but i it could be TF India is not wholly owned by True Yoga Group)

…the rm99 poster is very misleading with the word WORLDWIDE… as our contract is stamped with Name of the country: Msia, Thailand, Spore, Taiwan. in fact the corp website doesn’t include India in it’s map http://www.trueyoga.com.sg/map.htm

ii) it should be a standard rate…mine is rm7300+..i did not hv to bargain..anyone got cheaper? . i think u should call the general number, ask for any consultant & re-enquire, any consultant can sign up for u…

now that we already hv 2 flavor of Black Card VIP, i forsee there will be a varieties of Black Card VIP in the future….tsk tsk tsk.. i hope they conglomerate it soon…
