This post is 2.5 months late. I should have written it earlier.
The Good Thing…
MunFitnessBlog.com has grown leaps and bounds from 60,000 monthly page views a year ago to the recent 270,000 page views.
The average e-mails I receive has increased from average of two e-mails a week to at least five e-mails weekly.
I am humbled by the recognition. What this 2-year-old site is having now has gone far beyond what I expected earlier.
While I am thrilled by the growth, I am keeping an eye on the resources and the respond time of my shared server. In fact, I have to pay to my web host for the overuse of bandwidth last month. For the past couple of days, I have been burning midnight oil figuring out how to optimize the site to ensure it is fast and responsive, yet at the same time, consuming as little server resources as possible.
All this while, many health and fitness advertisers have been knocking on my door offering sponsorship and I have been declining, one after another. Some are from detox diet business, some are from the typical “how to have 6-pack or lose 20 pounds within 1 week” type of e-book authors, some are from soda companies, some are from protein supplement providers and some are from fitness equipment manufacturers. The list goes on.
With the explosive growth of server resources usage, I know that instead of putting a blanket NO to all advertisers, I decided to go back to the negotiation table and discuss with few selected ones. After much considerations, I put up quite a number of terms, not so much in terms of dollar and cent, but more to manage upfront expectation that I am not into writing any strong words to mislead my readers. I still give the freedom to the advertisers to come up with the manuscripts, but I will vet through them before agreeing to publish. I have to agree on the words that they use and the picture they select.
Will wait and see how it goes.
I love this blog. As I mentioned in First Anniversary of MunFitnessBlog.com and Moving Forward, it is an excellent moment to look back and see how we have got here together. I feel good every time I saw the frequent visitors leaving their comments here. I do not have to mention the names but I am sure you know who you are. Thanks.
I have a day job. And I just got married early of the year. Life is never been so good. At the same time, I am extremely busy. Fortunately, I still managed to keep at least 1 post every 3 to 4 days. So, in a month, 8 to 10 posts is still possible.
However, I worry that it is getting tougher once my work load increases, slowly but surely. I need more hands to contribute to this blog.
