I’ve used to gargle a capful of apple cider vinegar and it helped with sore throat too.

Mixing a bit of apple cider vinegar + honey in hot water also helps.

As a person who has been living with sorethroat all my life, I have came up with several home remedies that works sometimes (but not all the time)..

For mild itchy throat, try to take a lot of fruits and vitamin C to boost your immunity as your first defence against cold which will cause nasal drip that irritates your throat. Try sucking a lozenge ie Strepsil overnight, sounds weird but it works like magic :) Also in Malaysia we have this thing called Kembang Semangkuk which is good to relieve heatiness. Coconut juice is good also.

If your throat start to ache more than usual, take loads of warm water and fruit juices especially oranges unless your throat is too painful to take citrusy juices.

If your sorethroat comes along with a fever, best bet is to see a doctor and get some antibiotic. Good luck with the throat.

Just to add to TMY about sucking a lozenge overnight. The worst bit about the sore throat is that you can’t sleep properly, getting enough sleep is what will help you recover. If I have a sore throat (many years of experience talking here) I put a lozenge under my tongue and go to sleep, the lozenge soothes my throat all night and I put it under my tongue to stop me choking on it, as it is a choking hazzard to fall asleep with something in your mouth!
If I have no lozenge available i keep a banana next to my bed as it will soothe my throat long enough for me to get back to sleep and i’m getting the goodness from the banana.

I know someone who would cut an onion in 1/2 and put it in water in the fridge over night and the next morning drink the juices? she said it works every time. Perhaps it’s like the garlic?

The very moment I feel my throat is starting to get sore, I gargle with antiseptic mouthwash immediately!

Great tips. I think the best one is the salt water gargle at night and the tea with lemon and a little honey goes a long way with me.
