The Truth About Jennifer Lopez’s Workout and Diet Plan

Jennifer Lopez (J.Lo) is a famous American actress and singer.  She is one of the few celebrities known to have “big” figure yet remains popular.  She is not those Jennifer Aniston slim type, and definitely not hardcore Madonna bodybuilder type, neither she is the Jessica Biel athletic type.

In February 2008, after giving birth to twins, she gained about 55 pounds.  Despite what she said about not sticking to workout routine, the truth is that she actually takes workout routine and nutrition regimen seriously.  She probably wants people to have the perception that she does not have to try hard to look good.

Right after discharging from hospital, Jennifer Lopez got back to gym.  She told the world that she trained for triathlon.  The truth is that she wanted to get back her body shape soonest possible.  Behind the scene, she trained with much hard work and determination.  Within that one month, she works out for an hour to 90 minutes a day.  The real reason she wanted to do such triathlon was that the swimming, cycling and running are activities that really tested her fitness level and help her got back to her pre-baby body shape.

Jennifer Lopez’s Workout Routine
According to several interviews, Jennifer Lopez claims that she does not like to have fixed workout routine dictating her lifestyle.  She also said that she works out whenever she feels like doing it and not sticking on schedule.  Not really, according to her personal trainer, Gunnar Peterson.  Jennifer Lopez works out as much as six times a week preparing music video shoot.

Here are few activities she does:

  • Dance – Jennifer Lopez is a good dancer.  Practising and rehearsing for her dance move for stage performance or her music videos are actually good cardiovascular exercise.  Dancing is a full body workout which helps build her cardio endurance.  One of her favorites’ is Zumba.
  • Yoga – She does yoga to relieve stress.
  • More cardiovascular exercises – She runs on treadmill, trains on elliptical trainer, cycles stationary bike, rows on rowing machine and step on stair stepper.  She likes rowing as it is easy on her joints yet working many muscles at the same time.  What you can learn from her is about doing different cardio so that your body not getting used to one boring exercise.
  • Weight training – In order to have functional body which strength is one of the major components, Jennifer does weight training.  Unlike many typical women, she understands that it is not easy for women to have big muscles with weight lifting.

She gained about 25 kilogram (about 55 pounds) during her pregnancy.
To slim down after giving birth, she woke up at 4 AM to start working out.  Under a team of nutritionist and personal trainers, she went through the gruesome 1 month to cut her weight down by 40 pounds.

Jennifer Lopez’s Diet Plan
Again, in all her interviews, Jennifer mentioned that she never starve herself and often have cheat days.  While it is true she eats almost everything, including junk food, the truth is that she eats in moderation.  She has someone monitor how much she put into her mouth.

She does not have any special diet plan.  However, she makes sure she has a well balanced diet and limits her calorie to about 1400 calorie a day, sometime, 1100 a day.

She has very heavy breakfast, then decreasing her intake on the following meals as day goes by.

If she really eats sin food, she compensates the excess calories by working out harder.  She does not drink alcohol.  She does not smoke and she is never on drug.

Jennifer Lopez keeps telling her fans to be happy to look healthy and beautiful.  What she says is true.  But, it is her hard work and strict discipline when comes to food intake that actually keep her body shape from going bigger.

She knows that with her hectic schedule, it is no longer easy to get down to size zero, in fact, with her body build, it is never easy.  That is why she has been size six for the past decade.  Her carefully designed dress make her hourglass figure stands out.  Her fashion often hides her baby fat and show off her butt and boobs. While she can do that, she cannot do that with skimpy outfit, which she often avoids whenever possible.

She has also said that, “I hate to look in a magazine and see a picture of a girl who looks so thin she looks unhappy and as if she just needs someone to give her a good meal.”  She is right, but the reason she said that because she has difficulty in getting smaller size, despite much effort.

Therefore, the next time you read her interview where she talks about soft feminine approach in working out, take it with pinch of salt.   She has worked her ass out in the gym.
