In Malaysia, Yoga Zone was one of the fitness centers that rode on Yoga craze few years back. It was set up by Tjhin Chee Kun in year 2002. Tjhin graduated as computer engineer in Australia with a scholarship. He quit his corporate job and flew to India to learn Yoga. After a year, he went to Hong Kong for about one and half years before he decided to go for the business venture. He opened first Yoga Zone in Taman Desa, one of the established residential areas in Kuala Lumpur. Within a year, the number of members has grown to about 1,000. After 6 years, fast forward to year 2008, the with 12 outlets, company claimed that it has about 20,000 members. It has yoga classes at Plaza Damas, Bandar Bukit Tinggi Klang, The Weld, Kepong, Taman Desa, Seri Petaling, Malacca, Cheras Plaza and Bandar Puteri Puchong outlet. Its spa centres are located at The Weld, Seri Petaling and Taman Desa whereas fitness centres (under that name of Y Fitness) are at Klang and Kota Kinabalu. During an interview in year 2006, Tjhin was ambituos and he said that he was aiming at regional market and Indonesia was probably the first country that he would expand his business. Ia membuka pertama Yoga Zona di Taman Desa, salah satu wilayah perumahan yang didirikan di Kuala Lumpur. Dalam waktu satu tahun, jumlah anggota telah berkembang menjadi sekitar 1.000. Unfortunately, things did not go well. As early as June 2008, members have noticed that many regular experienced yoga instructors were no longer teaching there . A month later, many more yoga classes were canceled . Those instructors were frustrared. Staffs were demotivated. Students were puzzled. Customers felt cheated too. Notices were put up stating that the outlets would be closed for a week for a restructuring exercise. The outlet at Taman Desa was even splashed with red paint. Sayangnya, hal itu tidak baik. Sebagai awal Juni 2008, anggota menyadari bahwa banyak biasa dialami instruktur yoga yang tidak lagi mengajar di sana. Sebulan kemudian, banyak kelas-kelas yoga telah dibatalkan. They started to sell membership as early as possible to take the cash upfront from the customers. Membership were promoted 3 to 6 months before any new place was ready to open. Almost every big chain fitness centers do so. Celebrity Fitness does that. California Fitness does that. The banks continue to charge these members' credit card when the yoga clubs are no longer operating. Banks will still charge, why? Yoga Zone is indeed the bad apple in the fitness industry. This incident bankruptcy , which involves such a huge amount of money from 20,000 members, has given tougher challenge for its other peers in the industry. In Malaysia, golf or recreational club industry, which shares the similar concept of getting membership fees settled upfront, are being regulated strictly. Authorities have to approve the membership scheme and the business owners have to pay certain huge amount of paid up capital. Terms and conditions are clearly stated in leaflet or prospectus. We do not see that in yoga or fitness industry yet. In order to protect customers, it is time to regulate fitness or yoga clubs under the same laws. If you are the top management from any of the fitness centers I mentioned above and if you still care about your valuable customers, I therefore request you to send me your name and e-mail and I shall publish them here. It's not true that the yoga clubs are no longer operating, i just backed from the class in one yogaclub outlet. It's not true bahwa yoga klub tidak lagi beroperasi, dan hanya didukung dari kelas satu di yogaclub outlet. There are classes everyday. Terdapat kelas-kelas setiap hari. Yogazone do not declare bankruptcy till now, too early to define it's bad apple in fitness industry. Yogazone tidak menyatakan kebangkrutan sampai sekarang, terlalu dini untuk menentukan it's bad apple dalam industri kebugaran.

the gym i work out at..in bangsar village is getting quite bad too.. olahraga yang saya bekerja di desa .. di bangsar semakin agak terlalu buruk .. things dont work ie the showers, sauna, steam room, gym equipment, bicycles etc. Even the class instructors mic dont function properly which is absurd! hal, yaitu bekerja dont shower, sauna, sauna, gimnasium peralatan, sepeda dll Bahkan kelas instruktur dont mic berfungsi dengan baik yang mustahil! How hard is it to get proper mic? Cara keras adalah untuk mendapatkan mic?

A nice article to reveal the truth of Yoga Zone's financial crisis. J nice artikel mengungkapkan kebenaran Yoga Zona krisis keuangan. The founder (TJ) has spoilt the good name of Yoga Zone and caused it became the bad apple in fitness industry. Pendiri (TJ) telah basi yang baik nama Yoga Zona dan menyebabkan ia menjadi buruk apel dalam industri kebugaran.
It is true that a lot of people lost confidence or no longer trust easily in the fitness centers. Memang benar banyak orang kehilangan keyakinan atau tidak lagi percaya dengan mudah di pusat-pusat kebugaran. I considered myself lucky as yet to sign up the life time member. Saya menganggap diri saya beruntung karena belum mendaftar kehidupan pribadi anggota. I lost RM1,588 membership which was just renewed 2 months ago. Saya kehilangan RM1, 588 anggota yang baru saja diperbaharui 2 bulan yang lalu.

I have also signed up a year membership with California Fitness early this year due to a good corporate rate been offered to our company. However, was being approached and convinced that it was a need to sign up the personal training package when I activated my membership. But have dragged till now for 5 months and yet to finish and not meeting expected result due to inconsistent training. Tetapi ada menyeret sampai sekarang selama 5 bulan dan belum selesai dan tidak diharapkan hasil rapat karena tidak konsisten pelatihan. I tried to request for refund or change of trainer but was told not allowed and no way I can complain to the management. Saya mencoba untuk meminta pengembalian dana atau perubahan pelatih diberitahu tetapi tidak diperbolehkan dan tidak bisa mengeluh kepada manajemen. Too bad…. Too bad .... This will be my good experience and will never sign up any personal training with California Fitness. Ini akan menjadi pengalaman yang baik dan tidak akan pernah mendaftar pelatihan pribadi apapun dengan California Fitness.

The YZ outlets will be closed tomorrow and no idea whether it will be continued until the meeting on Mon. YZ gerai yang akan ditutup besok dan no idea apakah akan terus sampai pada pertemuan Senin I went to the Cheras Plaza outlet this noon and saw that the store room was opened but all the gymballs, air pump and straps are gone and some of the mats in the studios also been taken. Aku pergi ke Cheras Plaza outlet ini siang dan melihat bahwa toko kamar dibuka tetapi semua gymballs, pompa udara dan straps yang hilang dan sebagian tikar di studio juga diambil. Computer also disappeared (no idea where it gone). Komputer juga hilang (no idea di mana ia pergi). If the receiver has the intention to continue, they should keep or look after all these equipments as it is part of the company properties/assets. Jika penerima memiliki niat untuk melanjutkan, atau mereka harus tetap menjaga semua peralatan yang merupakan bagian dari perusahaan properti / aset. Otherwise, they will have to spend some money on it when re-open. Jika tidak, mereka akan mempunyai uang untuk dibelanjakan pada saat buka kembali.
I tried to be positive and really hoping for good news. Saya mencoba untuk menjadi positif dan benar-benar berharap untuk good news. But in reality, this is the fact we have to face. Wow. Wow. That's terrible. That's terrible. I'm so glad I have never exerienced something like this at a gym I have been a member of. I'm so glad I tidak pernah exerienced sesuatu seperti ini di tempat latihan saya telah menjadi anggota. However, I have never been a member of a gym chain – just the local council supported gym and my university gym. Namun, saya belum pernah menjadi anggota sebuah gym rantai - dewan lokal hanya didukung gimnasium dan universitas saya gym. Maybe that is why. Mungkin itulah sebabnya.

Yes, I went to Tmn Desa's Sunday 9:30am class. Ya, saya pergi ke Tmn Desa dari Minggu 9:30 kelas. No issues, as I know that YZG is struggling to survive through this trouble time although for all of us to come to this point is rather sad. In fact, nothing much from the meeting yesterday as it was mainly discuss about the teachers and staffs' outstanding salaries, epf, socso and income tax matters. Bahkan, tidak jauh dari pertemuan kemarin seperti yang terutama membahas tentang guru dan staf 'tunggakan gaji, epf, socso dan pendapatan pajak hal. However, there will be another meeting next week and hope to hear good news. Namun, akan ada pertemuan lain minggu depan dan berharap untuk mendengar kabar gembira.

I am looking, Cheras is too far for me. Saya melihat, Cheras terlalu jauh untuk saya. Kuchai Entrepreneur Park have a few but none of them offer 7am classes, I prefer morning classes to get my workout out of the way then head to work. Kuchai Entrepreneur Park ada beberapa tetapi tidak satupun dari mereka menawarkan kelas 7, saya lebih memilih untuk mendapatkan kelas pagi saya sering keluar dari jalan maka kepala untuk bekerja. Also at KEP, in the evening the area is quite noisy as cars are parked unruly over there causing congestion and lots of honking – it will be hard to concentrate with all the distraction. Juga di Kep, pada malam kawasan cukup bising seperti mobil parkir di sana kacau menyebabkan kemacetan dan banyak honking - akan sulit untuk berkonsentrasi dengan semua kebingungan.
I have only found 1 place that offer 7am classes close by, that is Myoga however morning classes are usually Hot class with one or two Basic Pilates during the week….at the moment, I cannot find a yoga center that could give the variety of classes like Yoga Zone (especially the morning classes)… Saya hanya ditemukan 1 tempat yang menawarkan 7 dekat oleh kelas, yaitu kelas pagi Myoga namun biasanya Hot kelas dengan satu atau dua Dasar Pilates selama satu minggu .... But I think the possibility of this happening to any fitness centres is very real, even established ones. So I guess the best way not to become a victim is: Jadi saya kira cara terbaik untuk tidak menjadi korban adalah:
1. 1. Do not pay for lifetime memberships. Jangan membayar untuk masa keanggotaan. Pay the monthly fees only. Membayar biaya bulanan saja.
2. 2. Join fitness centres of international brand, ie. Bergabung di pusat kebugaran merek internasional, misalnya. originated from overseas and which have many branches worldwide and with good track record. berasal dari luar negeri dan yang memiliki banyak cabang di seluruh dunia dan merekam lagu dengan baik.

I also face the same problem with my Personal Trainer. Saya juga menghadapi masalah yang sama dengan Personal Trainer. Always late and giving all kinds of excuses not showing up for my training. Selalu terlambat dan memberikan segala macam alasan tidak muncul untuk pelatihan. Most important is the attitude she gives like don't care about my training program, which really pisses me off. Paling penting adalah memberikan sikap dia seperti tidak peduli tentang program pelatihan yang benar-benar pisses me off. Luckily I only signup for 4 session, sayonara to her now I will not signup PT anymore. Untungnya saya hanya pendaftaran selama 4 sesi, sayonara kepadanya sekarang saya tidak akan lagi pendaftaran PT. dpegasus, totally understand how that feels, I was a member of California Fitness before and yes I signed up for their Personal Training sessions….that is why now though Myoga is my closest Yoga place, I'm still thinking and thinking since Myoga and California Fitness are sister company. dpegasus, totally memahami bagaimana merasa bahwa saya adalah seorang anggota California Fitness sebelum dan ya saya mendaftar untuk sesi pelatihan pribadi mereka .... itulah sebabnya walaupun sekarang saya Myoga dekat tempat Yoga, saya masih berpikir dan berpikir dan sejak Myoga california Fitness adalah perusahaan sejenis. I actually renewed my membership for another year a few months ago (i think in may)…and from what i have been reading, they have been going through some problems at this time already?! I heard that there will be a meeting held in Klang this Friday 5th Sept, where and what time I'm not sure. I do not know what is this meeting is about, as I know they have been holding lots of meeting with the teachers not once did they include us (their clients). I am a little dissapointed when i found out there is not much control on budgeting and how they run the business..'ethically'. I am a little dissapointed ketika saya menemukan ada tidak banyak tentang penganggaran dan bagaimana mereka menjalankan bisnis .. 'ethically'. Im not gonna say much here on that. Im not gonna say much on that. Not that they do something illegally. Mereka tidak melakukan sesuatu yang ilegal. But its a good company that i have contributed and learn so much from my previous supervisor. Namun yang baik perusahaan yang telah memberikan kontribusi dan belajar banyak dari sebelumnya supervisor. I bet she have yet to get her salary. I bet dia belum Get her gaji.
The main thing is the constant delay in payment. Pokoknya adalah konstan keterlambatan pembayaran. It could easily drag up to 6 months to my surprise. Dapat dengan mudah tarik hingga 6 bulan ke saya. I've seen all the good employees leave one by one…leaving some departments totally empty… unpaid EPF – i would just leave as it is. Saya telah melihat semua baik karyawan meninggalkan satu per satu ... meninggalkan beberapa departemen totally kosong ... belum dibayar EPF - i would just leave karena. Countless complaint to the labor law offices, EPF departments just dont seem to be effective. Banyaknya keluhan kepada tenaga kerja kantor hukum, EPF departemen just dont seem to be efektif. No offense but i just dont seem to have faith in they way the gov departments handle such matters. No offense but i just dont tampaknya memiliki iman dalam cara mereka gov departemen yang menangani hal-hal seperti itu.
Now in the hand of receivership, all existing employees probably only about 4 of them could not report to work, its the same as being unemployed or retrenched. Sekarang di tangan kurator, semua karyawan yang ada mungkin hanya sekitar 4 dari mereka tidak bisa lapor ke pekerjaan, dan sama seperti yang menganggur atau retrenched. We dont know the outcome yet till now. We dont know hasilnya belum sampai sekarang. All i can say is 'the amount owed' is far more than you could ever imagine now. Comfort Zone is under Yoga Zone.. Zona kenyamanan adalah dibawah Yoga Zona .. Under YZ, we have Comfort Zone, Yoga Zone/Club Itself and Y Fitness. YZ di bawah, kami telah Comfort Zone, Yoga Zona / Klub Kebugaran dan Y itu sendiri. YZ Academy could be consider as well. YZ Akademi dapat mempertimbangkan juga. Its a separate brand entity but all parked under YZ. Its a brand entitas terpisah tetapi semua parkir di bawah YZ. Nalla, i dont think they will open up Comfort Zone anytime soon. Nalla, i dont think mereka akan membuka Comfort Zone kapan saja segera. Perhaps u just need to wait and see for ur unclaimed massage time. U mungkin hanya perlu menunggu dan melihat untuk ur unclaimed pijat waktu. Maybe u could change the 7 hours into a yoga class session PROVIDED that there are staff attending to your probs. Maybe u dapat mengubah 7 bulan ke kelas sesi yoga DIBERIKAN bahwa ada staf menghadiri ke probs.
There is no staff managing Comfort Zone now whats more in Yoga Zone itself, except for the receivership. Tidak ada staf pengelolaan Comfort Zone sekarang apa lagi di Zona Yoga itu sendiri, kecuali untuk kurator. They would not entertain till they have come out with a solution on YZ sustainability. I got hold of my salary way before the problems starts to aggravate on the heavier side. I got terus saya gaji jalan sebelum mulai memperburuk masalah pada berat sebelah. Thank god i leave on time and push my way for my salary when HR and few other management people are still there. i have been looking around for other gym in KK too. Saya telah melihat-lihat untuk olahraga lainnya di KK juga. I asked about the fitness centre alocation in One Borneo, but unfortunately they haven't found any tenant yet. Saya bertanya tentang pusat kebugaran alocation Satu di Borneo, namun sayangnya mereka belum menemukan apapun penyewa yet.
And as i know they are fitness member in sutera harbour, tanjung aru resort, and le meridien too.

My friend and I both signed up for the “lifetime” membership package early Feb 08. It's really fustrating to know that we'll continue to pay our credit card for services that no longer would be provided to us.
Anyway, I've checked with Citibank with regards to the monthly deduction in my credit card. They have paid Y-Fitness upfront for the sum due. So in my case, I'm actually paying back Citibank. As such, there's no way for them to stop the deduction. Darn it!!

I am not YZ victim. I join WMAC ( world martial art center) for Yoga class. It is located opposite Ampang Park. I find there is issue with the center's management. They cancel class w/o informing the member, I feel being cheated. I join the center becos of a line dance class on Monday. After the instructor quit, they just remove this class on Monday. SO why I am still paying? no line dance class, and another Yoga Instructor also quit recently.. are they gonna close yoga class as well??

What a shame! I just found out that YogaZone has been closed down. I bought 3 vouchers from a member in March, and I thought may be I can use it someday…and now that someday will never come…as I can't use my voucher in the Urban Yoga.
I'm so regret…wasted my father's money, I still remember he wasn't happy that I buy the stupid vouchers.
This taught me never buy anything unless you need it immediately or should buy it one at a time, do not get tempted by it because you think is a great bargain/offer! Hate to learn this lesson this way! But of course my case is nothing compare to those that had sign up as life members.

I am a member of Yoga Zone @ Y Fitness Kota Kinabalu. Very disappointing to say that when the management of Y Fitness were trying to sell their membership to people they even promised the stars and the moon. I signed up, so did my girlfriends. I inquired about the life time membership one day. Without my knowledge, the consultant just upgraded my membership just because I had asked a few question regarding the life time membership.
When I told her that I did not accept any lifetime membership offers, she (The consultant) bagged me to accept the lifetime membership just because she had committed to the management under my name. I was so disgusted and refuted that I did not signup for a life time membership.
Worst thing is there wasn't even any notice telling the members about what was going on to the fitness center in Kota Kinabalu. being the first fitness center in Kota Kinabalu. Not even one signal indicating what was going on! I have been calling the center to seek for explanation. Some said that they are closed due to change of management. Some said they are closed for renovation. Until 2 weeks ago I took the afford to see what was the reason for its closure. To my amazed it was a court order stated that the place has been ceased by a lawyer firm in Kuala Lumpur.
So now, my next question is does that mean all the money that all the members have paid is being burned just like that?
We are now joining a petition through a lawyer firm in Kota Kinabalu (Ting & Jublee Advocate & Solicitor) to take action on our behalf. Let it be a refund of a small amount but at least its what we deserve. The management should not leave its member without any explanation.

but for the kepong Y fitness tat i join..they evan not started to build the gym yet than the next day we know the yoga zone gone bankcrupt..and still we need to pay the installment…

oh my… i'm so sad to hear about this and i feel bad for all the people who signed up for the lifetime membership. i remember they were really aggressively selling me the lifetime membership and i kept on postponing it. good thing i didn't sign up in the end… but i still lost some money bec i paid in advance for the massages as Comfort Zone (which is the massage area of YogaZone Plaza Damas). I still have several fully paid massages not claimed.
I am sure that there are people out there like me who bought massages in advance thru Comfort Zone… i wonder what will happen to this? I guess we all learned a lot from this experience.
Not only learning about the risk in signing up for lifetime membership at fitness areas… but also be wary about pre-paid massages (and buying too many of it just bec of the good deal / good promotion).

Hi all..
For me its a two way thing where marketing would be heavily emphasize o promotions. Otherwise, it wont even attract ppl to sign up. On how aggresive the sales team is, im not sure and ultimately as a consumer, u would be more attracted if u see a good promo upon signing up. The end decision is still yours to negotiate beyond the black and white paper. Personally, i dont think the sales team should be blame for forcing you to sign, without some 'forcing ability', you wont probably end up being a sales person.

the staff were persuading us while all the while the financial problem was happening…i was also encouraged to buy a lifetime membership not only for myself but for my partner as well, good thing we didnt…and it was just in early July this year…at that time i hear now some of the staff were not being paid for some months already….and when i called them to find out what happened after the unexpected closure they said they had resigned 3 months before ! and they dont know anything about the fitness closure ( and this was in August!)

Anyone learn yoga around Cheras areas? Sri petaling or Bukit jalil?
I wish to learn yoga again.. but i dare not to sign up for this kind of membership anymore.
Any yoga centre provides service like paying monthly fees and learn ?

Hi Marilyn,
I am not sure about Yoga centre around Cheras area, but I am aware of some in the area of Kuchai Entrepreneur Park, Off Kuchai Lama.
In fact, I am considering taking up the class at OneYoga there (www.oneyogacentre.com). I found that quite a number of ex-YogaZone trainers are teaching at the place now. They also informed me that their Bukit Jalil branch will be opening next Feb.

Just tried out the trial class at OneYoga, Kuchai Entrepreneur Park. It cost me RM10 (for two classes). The offer there now is RM788 for two person, which entitles for 3 months + 2 weeks, unlimited use. Their concept is pretty much like YogaZone, they have classes running throughout the day, and you can just hop in any of the classes you like.
Setup there is quite good, with the studio room larger than Tmn Desa YogaZone. Shower and locker facilities are good too. This morning class was Power, which essential comprises of sun salutions, and some stretching asanas. I would think it will suit most of the Beginner – Intermediate students. I think I will go back again.

Looks like Clark Hatch has taken over the Y fitness centre in Centro Klang. They are currently open for business….They are charging RM105 per month via direct debit method via credit card or bankcard….What abt our deposits for life membership from Y Fitness? Is there any legal avenues to recover our money?

Hi all, I have just turned up at the Tribunal court this morning for the claim of my newly paid membership for renewal for YogaZone. The receiver company didnt have anyone turn up the event, so the Tribunal court issued an order for the receiver court to attend the court.
Anyone here have any latest with claim? Tho I know chances are slim to get any money back, I still feel that it's worth the try.

I am quite afraid to pay an amount for a long/short term of classes. But so far, i never come across with any yoga center which offers monthly payment basis. Quite upset. As i am still a student, so actually i cant afford to pay a huge amount by myself in one time. But i really wish to continue my yoga class. :) I went to OneYoga for enquiry before about their promotion and classes etc before i signed with Yogazone. So bad luck i choose yogazone. SIGH!

So, I've read all the comments. Each and everyone of them. I actually enrolled in Y Fitness Kota Kinabalu December last year. Then suddenly one day when I went to the gym around August/December, boom! It's closed. At first I thought maybe it was just an off day for them. Later I heard my friend telling me something about Y Fitness facing some sort of finanacial problems. So, I called them to reaffirm. No one answered. My father drove there and have a look. There was a court order on a piece of paper in the door. Few days later when I went to that location, I see that all gym equipments were no longer there. What a way to greet us.
I just want to know if there's any refund for my membership. Recently, I received an sms stating that there is going to be full refunds for Y Fitness in City Mall, Kota Kinabalu. I don't know if it's true. If it's true, that would be great. But how can we get our refunds? I mean, there's no instructions or whatsoever directions that state where we should go to or proceed. Could someone please tell me what I should do?

I too was a member of Y Fitness @ City Mall, KK. My friends and I didn't receive any sms regarding full refunds for Y Fitness. So there's no truth to it. Even if there were to be any refunds I doubt it'll be paid in full.

I wanted to start learning Yoga and surfing around for a good Yoga center… I live near Kuchai Lama and considering OneYoga, YogaLounge and 72Yoga Studio…
Both OneYoga and Yoga Lounge offer very nice ambiance which look comfortable, however 72 Yoga studio look a bit simple and dim. Anyway I think my main consideration of learning Yoga should not be putting on the renovated ambience but the true concept of Yoga.
72 Yoga studio – seems to practicing a very good concept of healthy and meaningful lifestyle by offering not even Yoga, but charity activity, camp etc..
One Yoga – Look more pro and offering more type of Yoga, anyway I do not know what are the difference and considering
Yoga Lounge- the ambience give me good impression but I suspect the gal who talked to me is a smoker, which I think true Yoga people would not smoke since they are promoting and offering health service.
I am deciding between One Yoga and 72 Yoga studio, anybody has any comment?
In terms of payment- to those who is looking for Monthly payment, yes, 72 Yoga studio offering such.

Hi Rain,
I have attended the two sessions of the trial classes at OneYoga (I have practiced Yoga for over a year now, until YogaZone closed down recently). The good thing about One Yoga is that the studios are large and spacious, so you would not have to experience the “sardin-type” classes where hand touches hand. The front desk Ms Samantha is helpful and pleasant attitude, so that's nice. Shower room facilities (for men at least) is decent and nice.
Now when come to the instructors, based on the two classes I attended, I would say “not bad”. I think they are adequate, but I wouldn't put it as very good.
I am kind of in a dilemma now as to whether I should check out more other places, or should I just sign up OneYoga. After all, it's a 3 months deal, so worse case I just switch to you other places if I do find better ones.
May I know where 72Yoga is located, near OneYoga?

72 Yoga studio is at the same row with Old Town Kopitiam Kuchai Lama…if u like spacious yoga centre, think 72 Yoga Studio is kind of small… anyway juz check it out ^-^

Hi to every victim of YOgazone,
Im oso was a member from Tmn Desa headquarter club. Practice for 1 year de. Since the closed down of the whole yoga zone group through out Malaysia on Sept till now, im wonder anybody have any idea or new updates that the new receivers Messrs Ferrier Hodgson MH Sdn Bhd going to open back the club? In the main homepage of YZ (www.yogazone.com.my), they had posted up a notice but didnt mention any action will be taken. As i have assumed that all my installment money will not get refund back, so now i just wish there will be a replacement club for all ex-YZ member.
Fyi, i had already paid 11th c.card installment and there still 1 month left for me to paid!!! but the worst part is this whole 1 year renewal membership, i still havent activated yet. so now im still thinking weather need to paid it o not as the bank will still charge us interest fee if we didnt clear the debt……*sigh*!!!!

Do u think it will be too late if i make a complaint report to Tribunal now? As there is a new in Sinchew Daily dated 11th Dec 2008, there were 5 members success win the case to claim back refund for membership fee but same case as yours that the defendant didnt turn up.

As in the Sin Chew news dated 11/12/08, are you sure that it mentioned 5 members of YogaZone successfully claimed there refund back? I read any article on that day on SinChew but didn't see that part of the news. Would you mind to send me the article please? It would be good news if there has been successful claimants.

How does a consumer file a claim in the Tribunal?
A claim can be filed in the Tribunal by filling up the claim form which is known as Form 1. This Form is available free of charge from all Tribunal branches and can even be downloaded from the e-Tribunal portal.
Form 1 must be completed in 4 copies by the claimant and filed in the nearest office of the Tribunal. The filing fee for Form 1 is RM5.00 and an official receipt will be issued to the claimant.
Form 1 will be registered dated and signed by the Secretary or an Assistant Secretary of the Tribunal and affixed with the seal of the Tribunal. Two copies of Form 1 that have been affixed with the seal of the Tribunal shall be returned to the claimant for service. Service of Form 1 to a respondent may be affected in any of the following manner:
leaving the document with the director, manager, secretary or other similar officer of the company or the proprietor of the firm;
giving the document to any of the persons mentioned above; or
posting the document in a pre-paid registered letter addressed to any of the persons mentioned above at the registered office of the company or firm or at its address for service
Note: Since YogaZone in under the Receivership, so the service of Form1 will be directed to the Receiver. Their details as follow:

What happens after filing Form 1?
The consumer has to serve Form 1 on the trader and both parties are required to attend a hearing of the claim on the date fixed by the Tribunal.
How should the parties prepare for the hearing before the Tribunal?
The parties should gather all relevant documents regarding the claim and get ready any witnesses to attend the hearing. Any party can also bring along a family member, friend etc. to assist them at the hearing. However, no lawyers are allowed to represent either party at the hearing.
What happens after the Tribunal hearing?
If the claim is settled with the consent of both parties, the Tribunal will issue an agreed award (Note: All Tribunal orders are known as awards). If the claim is not settled, the Tribunal will issue an award based on the assessment of the facts and the law involved. The President will give his reasons for the award.
What happens if any one party does not comply with an award of the Tribunal?
Non-compliance with a Tribunal award is a criminal offence under the Consumer Protection Act, 1999. Any complain of non-compliance with an award should be made to the Enforcement Division, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs.

However I think that, although the 5 claimants have been given winning by the tribunal court, it doesn't mean that they have received the refund back from YOGAZone yet. Do take a look at the article below by another member:

When a company is in receivership, all debts incurred by the company prior to the appointment of the receiver and manager, will be paid in accordance to Section 191 and 292 of the Companies Act, 1965. ie the secure creditor will come first (ie debenture holder (bank(s)), then if there is any surplus, it will be used to pay the preferential creditors (eg employees, EPF, tax….) and IF there are still surpluses, then only the unsecured creditors will get paid (suppliers, and customers, like those who actually signed up and paid their membership fees).
The gist of it is that if the secured creditor don't get paid in full, no one else gets paid. no matter where you go. or if you have a judgement.”

I just joined Core Fitness @ City Mall yesterday, everything seems ok there. The most they charge 1 year – RM1200, 12 month contract @ Rm150 – pay 1st month & last 2 months + RM 90 = total of RM540 then monthly RM 150 until the 10th month then renew rate at RM150 and 1 month RM180 Non contract.
I personally took the RM1200. Met their Boss Mr. CK Tan, he's a owner of several business in KK. So i got the confident to join.
Ethan n Danny is back to KK now. I think not much to worry, they even give free hand towel when sign up, is better than last time. I can't find any gym in kk provide more facilities in that good price in kk so i joined Core Fitness. You should go and check it out.

The company that took over Yogazone 's operation in Plaza Damas and Kepong is called Urbanyoga. We were told that as ex members /life time members we could enjoy the special rate of RM88 per month. If we were life members then we were allowed for 3 years.
On March 1st they decided to change the rule again, saying that the company will not honour this . This pledge was not made by them.
Anyone knows what can be done.!

This is the minority shareholder, Lay Gaik, to snatched the business from the founder followed by keep on changing entity and not to honour the previous membership. You will never know how cunning is this woman as she successfully using RM 600,000 to swallow three outlets, now the these outlets were sold to TSM, another entity which apparently is related to Lay Gaik.
If Mun likes to mention about the bad apple, this is the worst ever apple you can find in Malaysia fitness and wellness scene.
The new rule is “ALL MEMBERS WILL BE CHARGED FOR RM 168 MONTHLY!”,stupid, higher than fitness first one club membership fees, I believe that she's too big headed to carry on this business.

I used to be a member of Y Fitness. I joined this club with full confidence in early 2008. I even signed up for a personal training membership. All in all I spent about RM3,000 for a year membership. However, 2 or 3 months down the road, the centre starts to show signs of bad management and maintenance. There was always no water for showering and we signed a petition on that and the management did nothing!! I had hardly use the membership and not even 2 months into my personal training, I was informed that the centre is closing down. Worst of all, the bank is still charging me the installment. I filed a claim to the managing company of this case in KL and a copy of my claim has been sent to my bank and this was in September 2008. From then till now, nothing has been done and I don't even know if I can ever get back my money!!!
Now that Core Fitness is opened, I have been receiving numerous calls from them to get me to go back. Honestly, do you think for an ex member who has already had a bad experience with the previous fitness centre would actually want to sign back again even though the management people are totally different? Let me tell you, until today I have hugely refused to go back simply because I have spent about RM3,000 before and I can't even get back a single cent and I am encouraged to go back??? My confidence in a new fitness centre in KK has dropped to beyond zero. They do not even come up with a special or different package to entice the old members to come back. What a bad marketing strategy!
