I’m life time member of Yogazone.
It’s not true that the yoga clubs are no longer operating, i just backed from the class in one yogaclub outlet. There are classes everyday. Yogazone do not declare bankruptcy till now, too early to define it’s bad apple in fitness industry.

the gym i work out at..in bangsar village is getting quite bad too.. things dont work i.e the showers, sauna, steam room, gym equipment, bicycles etc. Even the class instructors mic dont function properly which is absurd! How hard is it to get proper mic?
and last week i saw a notice stating that the operation hours is now only until 10pm. when i signed up the guarantee was 6am to 12midnight every weekday…yet they still charge the same fees.
lets hope this one doesnt go belly up like the others.

A nice article to reveal the truth of Yoga Zone’s financial crisis. The founder (TJ) has spoilt the good name of Yoga Zone and caused it became the bad apple in fitness industry.
It is true that a lot of people lost confidence or no longer trust easily in the fitness centers. I considered myself lucky as yet to sign up the life time member. I lost RM1,588 membership which was just renewed 2 months ago.
Agreed that many customers ran into problems after signing the membership contracts. I have also signed up a year membership with California Fitness early this year due to a good corporate rate been offered to our company. However, was being approached and convinced that it was a need to sign up the personal training package when I activated my membership. As a result, I paid additional RM1,500+ for a 12 sessions personal training. Guess what I got? My trainer always not turning up since the 2nd session with last minute sms with the reasons overslept, late caught in the traffic jam, last minute appoitment and etc. I suppose to complete the training within 3 months with once a week as planned. But have dragged till now for 5 months and yet to finish and not meeting expected result due to inconsistent training. I tried to request for refund or change of trainer but was told not allowed and no way I can complain to the management. Too bad…. This will be my good experience and will never sign up any personal training with California Fitness.

The YZ outlets will be closed tomorrow and no idea whether it will be continued until the meeting on Mon. I went to the Cheras Plaza outlet this noon and saw that the store room was opened but all the gymballs, air pump and straps are gone and some of the mats in the studios also been taken. Computer also disappeared (no idea where it gone). If the receiver has the intention to continue, they should keep or look after all these equipments as it is part of the company properties/assets. Otherwise, they will have to spend some money on it when re-open.
I tried to be positive and really hoping for good news. But in reality, this is the fact we have to face. Found some of YZ’s teachers already start teaching at these yoga centers. Will update few more later as just went for another few more yoga centers at Kuchai Lama this afternoon. Have a nice weekend and awaiting good news from the receiver next week.

Wow. That’s terrible. I’m so glad I have never exerienced something like this at a gym I have been a member of. However, I have never been a member of a gym chain just the local council supported gym and my university gym. Maybe that is why.

No issues, as I know that YZG is struggling to survive through this trouble time although for all of us to come to this point is rather sad. However I am worried if Yoga Zone will ever make it. Do you know what is the outcome after the 10 days Receivership? Will Yoga Zone operations continue? Or is everything is still in the air like the past few months.
Do hope that things will work out, but for my health sake I think I still need to ensure that my workout is not continuously interrupted.

In fact, nothing much from the meeting yesterday as it was mainly discuss about the teachers and staffs’ outstanding salaries, epf, socso and income tax matters. However, there will be another meeting next week and hope to hear good news.
Please continue your yoga practice no matter what happened to YZ as we know it nenefits to our health. Cheers ^-^

I am looking, Cheras is too far for me. Kuchai Entrepreneur Park have a few but none of them offer 7am classes, I prefer morning classes to get my workout out of the way then head to work. Also at KEP, in the evening the area is quite noisy as cars are parked unruly over there causing congestion and lots of honking it will be hard to concentrate with all the distraction.
I have only found 1 place that offer 7am classes close by, that is Myoga however morning classes are usually Hot class with one or two Basic Pilates during the week….at the moment, I cannot find a yoga center that could give the variety of classes like Yoga Zone (especially the morning classes)…

Have not experienced anything like this at the gym I frequent, thank God. But I think the possibility of this happening to any fitness centres is very real, even established ones. So I guess the best way not to become a victim is:
1. Do not pay for lifetime memberships. Pay the monthly fees only.
2. Join fitness centres of international brand, ie. originated from overseas and which have many branches worldwide and with good track record.

I also face the same problem with my Personal Trainer. Always late and giving all kinds of excuses not showing up for my training. Most important is the attitude she gives like don’t care about my training program, which really pisses me off. Luckily I only signup for 4 session, sayonara to her now I will not signup PT anymore. This is at California Fitness btw.

dpegasus, totally understand how that feels, I was a member of California Fitness before and yes I signed up for their Personal Training sessions….that is why now though Myoga is my closest Yoga place, I’m still thinking and thinking since Myoga and California Fitness are sister company. Since there is no PT sessions by Myoga its not that bad???

Is there anything we as cheated members can do to recover our money paid upfront? How can we allow conmen like this TJ fellow to go unpunished. Y Fitness was still selling membership and life membership 1 day before closing shop in Klang branch. This is definately the work of a conman and we must not let him go easily. Is there someone who can shed some light into this and help us recover our hard earned money?

I actually renewed my membership for another year a few months ago (i think in may)…and from what i have been reading, they have been going through some problems at this time already?!
but because of work commitments, i couldn’t “activate” it yet….
but since then, i have been paying every month. what is going to happen to the remaining months???

I heard that there will be a meeting held in Klang this Friday 5th Sept, where and what time I’m not sure. I do not know what is this meeting is about, as I know they have been holding lots of meeting with the teachers not once did they include us (their clients). I think they like to leave us in the dark, guessing or worse make us hope for miracle. I think the least they could do is give us a brief update, its a common courtesy.
Frankly I have given up on Yoga Zone, I do not believe we could get our money back at all. However if the members would like to group together to highlight to higher authority I’m in.
Don’t mean to be harsh but frankly I’m fed up.

to protect us consumers from being taken for a ride by irresponsible health clubs. All these lifetime memberships/prepaid memberships are unfair to us. What happens if we have some sort of injury, or can’t exercise for a long period of time? Or what happens if we simply lose interest in exercising? What happens to our money then?
This is how some of these clubs make money. They cash in on the fact that you’ll quit first before your membership expires. But unfortunately in this case, Yoga Zone quit first.

I have been waiting for you to post this article. Well as an ex employee and lucky me as i got my salary due to consistently bugging them for my unpaid salary.
I am happy and of course sympathize with what the company is going through now. I am a little dissapointed when i found out there is not much control on budgeting and how they run the business..’ethically’. Im not gonna say much here on that. Not that they do something illegally. But its a good company that i have contributed and learn so much from my previous supervisor. I bet she have yet to get her salary.
The main thing is the constant delay in payment. It could easily drag up to 6 months to my surprise. I’ve seen all the good employees leave one by one…leaving some departments totally empty… unpaid EPF i would just leave as it is. Countless complaint to the labor law offices, EPF departments just dont seem to be effective. No offense but i just dont seem to have faith in they way the gov departments handle such matters.
Now in the hand of receivership, all existing employees probably only about 4 of them could not report to work, its the same as being unemployed or retrenched. We dont know the outcome yet till now. All i can say is ‘the amount owed’ is far more than you could ever imagine now.

All has been done and further complained would not work much as upon High Court Order, the company is being assessed by receivership with no interruption. We just have to wait and see…i guess….
