Wearing Makeup to the Gym?

I know most girls care about how they look like, including when they are exercising.  I have seen number of them wearing makeup at gym.  In fact, it is quite a norm during weekdays, especially right after working hours, between 6 to 8 PM.  Still, during weekend mornings, I often spot few female gym members having heavy make up while running on treadmills.

If a little waterproof mascara makes a woman feel better while exercising, no harm.  Just that long curled lashes, full foundation with glossylicious lips just a bit too much.  Look as if some are putting serious effort into their appearance even at the gym.  Some woman today have become so dependent on make-up to ‘appear’ attractive, that they prefer not to go anywhere without it.

Also, I guess, when city life becomes so hectic, fitness centers have become the new hunting ground for potential partners.  Don’t believe me?  Two of my old posts remain very popular -Top 10 Pick Up Lines For Girls or Guys At Gym and How To Pick Up Girls at Gym? The Tips All Guys Want To Know But Afraid To Ask.

In this new age, gym is becoming a “fashionable” place to to be and to be seen.  High fashion has invaded the gym and designer labels are now being part of the gym culture.  Women and metrosexual men feel more inclined to present themselves in the most positive way possible.

Back to the question of wearing make up to the gym, the truth is that, pore clogging foundation definitely is a big no to your skin while you are sweating it out.  After all, skin is an organ of elimination.  It is much more beneficial if the skin is free of make up.  You can easily cleanse your skin removing any excess dirt and waste after workout.

What is more important, in my personal opinion (being a guy), the form and posture doing the exercise is far more important.  I have a female friend who told me this, “At gym, I want to look good, but I don’t want to look like I am trying too hard with makeup to look good.”

So, ladies, how about you, do you wear make up to the gym? And guys, I am also keen to know that whether you check out ladies who wear make up.

I’m at the gym to workout… having make up run down your face while u run, cycle or pull weights would be a turnoff, right?

Nah.. never on makeup whenever I’m at the gym. I can impress guys with, and I quote, merely with my form and posture.

As an “older” woman going to classes at the gym, I feel that it is necessary for self esteem to look as good as possible, and maybe not quite as old as my true age. So I use some tinted conditioner, lipstick, and maybe some eyebrow pencil. I used to just throw on anything, but now I try to match up tops and bottoms, and wear things that fit properly, not too large or small. It’s not about attracting guys, it is about self-image. I get the part about heavy makeup clogging the pores – hadn’t thought of that.

Well I guess it’s all eye candy to the guy around :-)

But I do agree, it’s a lil too much to put the full suite on while your hittin the gym, even comin from work – it’ll be a good idea to get some off just in case otherwise you’ll probably look like The Joker.

I am not interested in meeting anyone at the gym. So no makeup here. I get annoy with the women hogging the mirrors putting on their make-up or mixing their hair before heading out to the floor.

I don’t normally wear much makeup anyway, so it’s not generally an issue, but overall I think women wearing makeup to the gym is just silly … bordering on stupid.

ON a regular day I wear tinted moisturizer (15 spf), mascara (because I have the blondest eyelashes ever), and some lipstick. When I get to the gym or go out to run, I generally take a wipe and remove (whatever is left) of the tinted moisturizer. I want my skin to breathe, not get clogged with makeup, sweat, and dirt.

Honestly it’s not attractive when I work out anyway. I sweat buckets. My hair is plastered to my head and dripping. My face flushes to the point that people ask me if I’m ok (thank you fair-skinned Irish heritage), my arms flush red, I’m often gasping for breath. You could layer make up on me with a trowel and it wouldn’t make me look better … and would probably look worse.

Then again, I wear black capris from Target and a ratty old tshirt from some sporting event … not matching, color coordinated outfits, either. :)

IMO, if you’re going to work out, then work out and focus on that. Not on how you look. If you’re too busy worrying about how you look, then you’re not worrying enough about what you’re doing!

Good point there! And it is so true! But what happens with all this makeup when they sweat? I guess they sweat on face too. I always wear only a bit of mascara when working out. Greeting and thanks for sharing!

Ugh, I hate when girls wear make-up at gym, some are even so dumb that they use an eyeliner.

Thing is, the gym is one of the highest-rated places to meet people, so I guess that it makes sense that women might wear some makeup to it (although too much is, I agree, excessive).

I’ve seen women with thick foundation melting on their faces when they sweated. They looked horrible! How about long-haired women exercising with their hair down?

for me, i don’t really mind girls having a little bit of makeup on during their workout but heavy makeup somehow just give off the wrong impressions. is either she is not serious in working (just to pick someone up) or she doesn’t have a glue about working out at all (the amount of sweat you’ll be having later on).

in my opinion, girls with heavy makeup in gym is like guy with super sweatproof/windproof hair do. and trust me, i have seen alot of guys that in the end of their workout session, their hair is still like fresh from the salon. wondering how many cans of spray is sprayed on the poor thing.

in short it has nothing wrong but the fact that you want to look good while working out, just don’t overdo it to the point of trying to hard.

I wear makeup to the gym, but I do it for my own self-confidence, not to pick up men. I even put makeup on to walk to the shops to get a pint of milk, which is five minutes away from me! Sounds pathetic, I know, but I just don’t feel confident in myself when I’m not wearing makeup. When I’ve got makeup on, I feel like I can walk with my head held high and a smile on my face because I know I look good and therefore I feel good. When I’m not wearing any makeup, I have noticed that my body language changes and I keep my head down. Also, I have to travel via public transport to get to and fro my gym, so I’d rather not have to wonder around wearing no makeup in public.
