For frequent travelers who enjoy working out in gym yet seldom have the time to do so, how nice it will be if you can work out at the airport in between the connecting flights. In fact, sometimes weather can be bad, runways are packed with planes or planes have technical and therefore your flight is delayed. Instead of being frustrated waiting at the terminal, some of the airports nowadays are equipped with gyms.
For travelers, working out in the gym not only a way to ensure their time is not wasted, it is also good for health reasons. Reducing stress and improving blood circulation after long flight are some of the benefits.
Kevin Gillotti, the founder of AirportGyms.com, has listed major airports with gym in the United States and Canada. However, not all the listings are located within the airport compound, but rather gyms which are 15-minute taxi ride from the airports. He has a plan to do listing for other airports in other countries.
For a daily fee of less than $15, many of these airport gyms are opened 24 hours. Most of them are part of the hotels. These gyms offer cardiovascular machines such as treadmill, bikes and elliptical trainers, weights and a few spa as well as massage services. They have showers too, so, travelers need not worry about getting smelly after sweating out. Some of the gyms even have indoor swimming pools.
Closer to home is Singapore Changi Airport which has a gym at the Plaza Premium Lounge. Based on my friend’s information, it charges entrance fee and gym fee. Sports attire such as shorts, T-shirts and sneakers available for rent. Complimentary snack and non-alcohol drinks are served.
So, the next time your flight is delayed, instead of having a beer with a pizza, do something beneficial for you health – go to the airport gym.
