How To Motivate Yourself To Exercise By Marking Your Calendar

When I first started working out, one of the ways to motivate myself to build the habit, I used a little trick. Every time after I came back from gym, I would mark that day with an “X” in my calendar. The markings gave me a quick overview on how frequent I have been working out that month.

If you do not like the X sign, by all means, replace it with a smiley face, star or heart. You can also use different colors or shapes to indicate what activity you have done on that day. Trust me, if you have been working out hard, it is a great feeling when you look back your calendar. In fact, by keeping track on your effort, you know when the best time to reward yourself.  I have a friend who will buy himself a fast food every time he gets 15 stars.

In short, this marking helps people who need visual motivation. Try it yourself and let me know how it goes and I hope that it will work for you too.

    never tried this way to monitor my workout. I tried to use the body fat analyzer to monitor my progress but I grew tired after a while. I use the mirror and my clothes to monitor my progress, if I look good and fit my clothes better, I know I’m doing fine :)

    Will defintely give this method a try, will add the hours I spent in the gym next to the date as well :)

    Well on the contrary, if after a period of time and the calendar is clean, it’s also a kind of de-motivation!

    Tracking your fitness progress will help you improve your physique and health.
    Seeing how far you have come will motivate you to achieve more.

    I find it hard to track myself using a calendar as I found that if I had been a lot in a given period of time I began to think it would be OK to have some time off. However what I do find works is tracking performance e.g. weight, body fat etc constantly giving yourself new goals to try and achieve.

    Marking your calendar definitely does help motivate you. I do it and it works great. I think for me its the motivation of not wanting to see days that aren’t marked. I just reminds me that I was lazy that day.
