    Sports drink is irrelevant if the activity is below 2 hours, IMHO. You do not potentially lose that much salt in those 2 hours, if you do, then you are not even hydrating enough or eating well.

    For all day kayaking trips I use a homemade sports drink made by diluting fruit juice and adding a little salt. This produces a natural sports drink with the nutrition from the fruit juice and no undesirable additives.

    I like the idea that brthomas6 says about making your own sports drink. Sounds cool.

    This site is well worth looking at. I would particularly refer brthomas6 to the section on fructose. Just starting to look into this after I basicaly crashed during a medievil sword fight practice where I was using only water. 1 hr + 1 ltr of water = not enough by far. An interesting experience.
