KFC Strikes Back With Breakfast Menu and 24 Hours Operation

January 7th, 2008 · 8 Comments ·

After McDonald’s started serving supper with its 24-hour operating hours in Malaysia, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Malaysia has followed suit.

Not only that, KFC Malaysia has gone into breakfast market too starting December 2007.

As expected, KFC’s breakfast menu is not only Western oriented with sausage and chicken muffin, but also with porridge and even Nasi Lemak (a local popular breakfast). While McDonald’s focuses in marketing its primary beef menu, KFC is centered around chicken. Every combo comes with choice of coffee or tea. My friend has tried Noodles O’ Chicken set and his comment – an overpriced instant noodle. I told him that that should be expected since it is a fast food meal! For those who are keen to give KFC Breakfast a try, you can goto their 24 hours restaurant between 5 AM and 11 AM.

For many years, companies have spent time understood consumers’ behavior. They know that people are strapped for time, even for breakfast. City folks rather sleep another 15 minutes more than waking up earlier to prepare breakfast, even with the food like cereal and packaged fresh milk. Hoping them to cook in the morning almost impossible. It is much more convenient to grab something and go.

So, with fast food companies going after breakfast market, isn’t a good sign?

Nasi Lemak in KFC? Why not go to a hawker center instead? But digressing, there used to be Chicken Porridge in KFC some years back. It used to be very popular because of the novelty, but a while later, it was taken down the menu.

    Hi Mun,
Not only are food outlets operating 24 hrs, there is even a gym that is hopping on the bandwagon… have u visited the new gym at phileo damansara? they have a huge banner advertising that they r open 24 hrs…

How about instead some good ole fashion porridge followed by a protein shake (bananas + almonds + protein + water + Blender = breakfast!).

I prefer good old bread, cereal, fruits or yogurt as my breakfast, rather than these fast food breakfast. Took a set once and went yuck!

However, it is worrying that the govt is allowing all these fast food outlets to operate 24hrs and talk about obesity in our country… What a lot of double-talk!

Anyway, i like the idea of the 24-hr gym since I may have to work on shift, hence, I can go to the gym during odd hours. ;-)

Does anyone know whether KFC still has a seriously level of hydrogenated fat?

It used to be cooked in this stuff – the dreaded ‘trans fats’! Unless their chicken wraps etc are grilled now, I would still avoid KFC like the plague if you are serious about losing weight!

I’ve been wondering about malaysia’s kfc, mcD, and burger king’s use of trans fat. I mean we all know the american counterparts have declared/are on their way to declare their menus trans-fat-free. no information on the net is available about malaysia’s fast food chains. any ideas?

In my opinion, KFC are the best of all fast food restaurants out there.
