Lamar Odom Eats Candy To Play Well in NBA Games

January 10th, 2012 · No Comments ·

For NBA fan, you probably know who Lamar Odom is. Odom currently plays at power forward for Dallas Mavericks. But, what got my attention is Lamar Odom’s addiction on candy.  His craving for sugar is pretty serious.

During an interview, he said, “It is funny because the games I played well were the games where I ate candy for breakfast. It is the reason why I got double digits in points and rebounds. I guess I am going to have to eat candy for breakfast in order to play well.” Before some of the important games, he admitted that he actually ate entire plate of jelly beans. Sound like a placebo effect to me. When his team mates are chewing gum or eating powergels for quick replenishment for energy during half time, he pop another piece of candy. In the team bus, his team mates appreciate his candy sharing session and they know who to look for when they need something sweet. So, what does Odom’s team mates has to say about his candy addiction. Kobe Bryant smiled, “Whatever works. I would love to be his dentist.”

Not every fan likes the fact that Odom loves candy. Some believe that eating too much sugar impairs Odom’s decision making on the court.

ESPN followed Lamar’s personal assistant around when he shops. You will be amazed by the amount of candy Lamar is eating. His assistant actually nicely arranged the candy in the car seat for him after his training.

When the news came out about his addiction, his fans are sending him more candy. I am sure his kids back home really loves him because he shares his same favorite food with them. Odom said, “My kids think I am cool. Coolest dude in the world.” Yes, it is like having Halloween everyday.

Michael Phelps eats a lot too, as much as 10,000 calories a day. Lamar eats probably up to 20 sweets a day. They are world class athlete. Who does not want to be paid millions to eat free candy? Probably 99% people out there cannot do what they do and that is why 99% of us are not professional athletes. We just should not copy what they eat and expect the same results.

Having said that, the day will come Lamar Omor has to get out from his addiction. When retirement comes, that is the day he should stop.
