Be Strong. Be Fit.

Second Anniversary of

October 13th, 2009 · 10 Comments ·

This post is 2.5 months late.  I should have written it earlier.

The Good Thing… has grown leaps and bounds from 60,000 monthly page views a year ago to the recent 270,000 page views.

The average e-mails I receive has increased from average of two e-mails a week to at least five e-mails weekly.

I am humbled by the recognition.  What this 2-year-old site is having now has gone far beyond what I expected earlier.

First Challenge…

While I am thrilled by the growth, I am keeping an eye on the resources and the respond time of my shared server.  In fact, I have to pay to my web host for the overuse of bandwidth last month.  For the past couple of days, I have been burning midnight oil figuring out how to optimize the site to ensure it is fast and responsive, yet at the same time, consuming as little server resources as possible.

All this while, many health and fitness advertisers have been knocking on my door offering sponsorship and I have been declining, one after another.  Some are from detox diet business, some are from the typical “how to have 6-pack or lose 20 pounds within 1 week” type of e-book authors, some are from soda companies, some are from protein supplement providers and some are from fitness equipment manufacturers.  The list goes on.

The Solution...

With the explosive growth of server resources usage, I know that instead of putting a blanket NO to all advertisers, I decided to go back to the negotiation table and discuss with few selected ones.  After much considerations, I put up quite a number of terms, not so much in terms of dollar and cent, but more to manage upfront expectation that I am not into writing any strong words to mislead my readers.  I still give the freedom to the advertisers to come up with the manuscripts, but I will vet through them before agreeing to publish.  I have to agree on the words that they use and the picture they select.

Will wait and see how it goes.

Second Challenge…

I love this blog.  As I mentioned in First Anniversary of and Moving Forward, it is an excellent moment to look back and see how we have got here together.  I feel good every time I saw the frequent visitors leaving their comments here.  I do not have to mention the names but I am sure you know who you are.  Thanks.

I have a day job.  And I just got married early of the year.  Life is never been so good.  At the same time, I am extremely busy.  Fortunately, I still managed to keep at least 1 post every 3 to 4 days.  So, in a month, 8 to 10 posts is still possible.

However, I worry that it is getting tougher once my work load increases, slowly but surely.  I need more hands to contribute to this blog.  So, if you think you can help, I would like to invite you to be my guest writers.  Head over to this post and find out more.  No worry, I dare not ask you to write 100 posts, just one quality one is good enough.  Most importantly, write with passion and share what you have gone through or know.

In a Nutshell…

Thanks again for all the readers who have been with me throughout the past 2 years journey.

I may be the creator of this place, but I am not always the leader. I let my readers lead me. As I always believe, this site is with you and for you.

Be Strong.  Be Fit.

Thank you.

    Happy Belated Anniversary.
Relatively new to your blog but fell in love with it instantly the moment my friend introduced me. Keep up the good work.
    God bless you….always.

p.s My married friend (male) said that once a guy settles down, he’ll definitely develop ‘love handles’….. no matter how fit & tone he is. Think it’ll happen to you?

First, congrats on the birthday of this blog and on your wedding. It’s great news :)
I believe you’ve made a good choice there- because we undergo different changes in our life cycle. It is a personal commitment to always come up posts and to source for photos on your own- I can truly emphasize with that since I manage multiple blogs for the sher interest of it. Because of graphics, it spikes into the hosting fee when the number of visitors increase.
btw, from my recent experience in starting some travel blogs, perhaps you may want to consider reducing the size of the images using a photo editor. I’ve shrunk most photos from 2MB to around 300 to 500kb.

Congrats Mun on 2nd anniversary of this blog and newly wedding of you and your spouse.

I agreed on Yin Teing that images should be the main concern when talking about bandwidth and resources. However, if you have to resize the image 1 by 1 then it consume alot of your free time. I am not sure whether I am allow to post this freeware here or not….its called “Powertoys”. Try google around and you can download this efficient tool.

    Hi Mun,

I discovered your blog many months ago and has been a regular visitor since. I am just glad that your blog, among a number of others, has helped me to realize my goals (still way to go) in getting myself in better shape and fitness. I lost 12 kilos in the last 3 months and shifted from being overweight to normal now. It’s a great feeling.

Like you, I had similar problem with the bandwidth usage in my blog. Looking from a positive angle, I guess we can take it as a sign of growth. A year ago, my webhost suggested me to install Super Cache plug in my wordpress. It solved my problem for a few months but but the resources usage keep on increasing and eventually I had to purchase a dedicated server.
